Power points are killing motivation
This app was great to start but now my kid is completely demotivated as he has moved very far along in all three maps available. Now he is having to wait two weeks to move forward as he is having to accrue 20+ points to unlock. Finally has enough points to unlock and has 100k steps but was locked out again after 5 stations and still has 50k steps left. Most parents don’t want to spend $5 on keys that will be gone after 1 use just to have it lock again. Either need more maps or reduce the power point requirements to only 10 so the kids still feel like they are making a difference while exercising. Will delete the app if changes are not made to the incentives.
This app makes me think of candy cigarettes, it’s wholesome with a decidedly creepy side. It’s great that it encourages kids to exercise and help kids in poor countries get food to eat at the same time, but the third side of the triangle that holds it all together is the same addictive design that’s in every f2p game that’s out there grooming kids to buy unicorns with their parents’ money. In this case it’s pushing them to buy keys to break through paywalls that are preventing them from feeding starving kids, so that’s ok right? I guess? Why does it feel so icky?
When I first downloaded this app, it was in the old format, where you could enter all of your steps at once at the push of a button. Now, since the “update” you have to hold down a button while your phone buzzes (loudly) to count every step. This is extremely inconvenient, especially when you don’t check the app frequently and bank up 450,000 steps. Overall, wonderful concept but bad delivery.
