What's New in Version 2.0.12
- Added Timetable, now listed under Travel Tools
- Minor bug fixes
An incompetent airline an incompetent App makes
One of the most important aspects of a App like this is its ability to inform the user of flight delays. However, this App and United do an abysmal job of this most important function. My 10:00 AM flight from Milan was delayed by 80 minutes. This delay was known by United at least eight hours in advance, as the plane that caused the delay was late taking off in the US. Yet, my App did not warn me. And when I checked in, the boarding pass still had the original time on it. When I called United to find out why I had not received any sort of alert (App, text or email), they told me that my account had no alerts associated with it. Perhaps this App would have worked if the airline worked, but a bad airline has become an abysmal one after the merger with Continental.
Good iPhone App
I travel almost exclusively on United for work, so I love this app’s tools for the United Clubs, tracking flights, etc….Plus the convenience of having my digital boarding pass easily accessible on the iPhone. The iPad version is really nothing more than a blown-up version of the iPhone app, and does not function in landscape mode…very disappointed in the iPad app and hope that United developers will fix this so it looks/feels more like an iPad app. If I could manage all my account info from here, I would not use the web site at all. Basically the iPad app is useless and I use the web site. Great potential here!
Good relative to competition but some improvements
United mobile app isn't perfect, but it's much better than several other airlines.
Suggestions for improvements:
- show the current flight status right on the boarding pass/reservation screen, instead of current process of having to click on the hard to notice middle link to flight status
- have the default setting be to subscribe to flight status notifications, instead of current process of having to opt-in for every freaking flight segment
Dump the airport maps link, replace it with something like a link to flightstats/similar
