What's New

Version 1.9.6

This update adds these improvements:

• For customers using NewsBlur, Unread will no longer show placeholder text on articles that do not have titles. This change does not apply to articles that a previous version of Unread already downloaded to the device. I want to thank Samuel Clay of NewsBlur for adding an API change that made this possible.
• Unread will now show image thumbnails for articles from
• I fixed a bug that would prevent images from loading in the Readability view on some articles.

Elegant, thoughtful design makes keeping up with RSS much more enjoyable

I love RSS, but have felt my interactions with it becoming more fraught and adversarial every time I start falling behind, leading to an inevitable, exasperated purge every few weeks or so.

Unread, so far, has solved this problem for me entirely by fundamentally changing how I interact with my feed. The clean, eye-pleasing design is a joy to behold, and—combined with the indispensable “Scroll to Mark As Read” feature—renders unhurried scanning through my feed refreshingly friction free. In essence, whereas most RSS readers provide a raft of tools that encourage “batch processing” and feed management, Unread promotes a simplified, streamlined interaction modality, boiling the experience down to the user and the text. For me, at least, this approach has been a godsend—now that I’ve tried it, and can’t imagine going back to how I was using RSS before.

I Use Unread EVERY Day

Mad Chipmunk

I’ve used Unread, since it was first developed by Jared Sinclair. It’s hands-down, the best RSS reader I’ve ever used. I keep it easily reachable on page one of my apps.

Since moving to Golden Hill, Unread has seen regular updates. It’s great to see one of my two favorite apps (the other is Tweetbot) getting some deserved love. The best has gotten better. Specifically, the most recent update did some nice housekeeping with the Safari view controller, basically the in-app browser, if you’re unfamiliar with it.

My only request is; add patronage! I migrated for free. I’ve got great use from the app. I’m willing to donate, to support Unread’s continued development. 👍

Wonderful app with an excellent, responsive developer

This is a great app with outstanding support. I purchased Unread long ago and loved the interface and thoughtful design. When Golden Hill Software bought the app, I emailed the developer asking for Feedbin saved searches as a support request. He said it was on their list of things to do and the latest release (1.9.1) added saved search functionality. It's nice to have an app under active development with a developer who is interested in building a better experience. Highly recommended!
