Goodbye Urban Spoon

Well, I'm VERY sad to say I'm one of the many people who is saying goodbye to Urban Spoon. I've been a loyal user for four years, reviewing a number of restaurants, adding several restaurants when I would go to one that wasn't on the app already. What made Urban Spoon most useful to me was as a place to keep track of every single restaurant I've eaten at since I joined, along with notes for myself about each visit. I liked that I could scroll back on the Dineline and see by date where I've eaten, or who I went with, or read my private comments about each place. Now that the app no longer supports that feature, I have very sadly deleted it from my phone. (I also learned an important lesson: never count on an app to maintain any data that I want to be able to access in the future – if the app gets sold to another company or if the company decides to change how the app works, I might no longer be able to access the data that I need.)
Anyway, from here forward I will sadly be using one of the competing apps to search for good restaurants when we travel.
Goodbye Urban Spoon.

Urbanspoon used to be so great.

Thankfully the urbanspoon rating system is still slightly functional. I travel for a living and have always relied heavily on the app to find new places to eat. In my mind the rating system 1-100 has always given a much more accurate picture of what is worth trying. Unfortunately Zomato has ruined most of the functionality of this app by making it so that once you tap on a restaurant you are interested in it shows the Zomato view/information which is absolutely useless. You used to be able to view a menu or get an idea of what type of food a restaurant served. Now it shows a very poor picture of the hours open and a rating system that not only does not make sense but goes out of its way to be useless. How is a restaurant that has a 3.0 considered bad but a 3.1good? I have always preferred urbanspoon to yelp because of more accurate ratings. I will however not be switching to a clunkier version of yelp hoping that some app developer can fix what was already not broken.

Poor migration & lousy GUI

I've been a user and contributor to UrbanSpoon for years. I hope the US owners got a lot of money for selling out their loyal customers. I've read the reviews on the new Zomato app - if you haven't. Please do so. I do not share my Facebook account info and my husband does not have one. Will not be using Zomato. EXTREMELY poor integration of the apps. They lost a lot of useful data and features.

So I got a clue - someone said the app is good for finding restaurants in Delhi. Is Zomato an Indian owned company? I worked with Indian web application developers for over 10 years. While they are wonderful people and knowledgeable programmers, their skill set does not typically include usability and understanding the customer (end user). Also, I've seen comments that Zomato is slow-this is no surprise as they are probably lacking a good architecture design.
