- Save your stories: Not enough time to finish reading an article? Do you have to power down your iPad on the plane? No problem, just save the article and read it later!
- Media index: Do you want to interact with the news? Now you can access a vast selection of USA TODAY photo galleries and videos. Our news is now more informative and comprehensive
You can own your news experience…
How do you read the news? The new app lets you choose your news view: “list” or “grid”. The “list” view will give you a quick scan of the news in the morning when you’re on the go, and the “grid” view offers a visual look into the day’s stories when you have more time to kick up your feet.
Looking for quick access to the sports scores, Snapshots and more? Your favorite USA TODAY features are always close at hand - you can access them via a new sliding panel on the left side of the screen. Customize the panel to fit your interests, and hide it when you’re scanning the headlines.
How about the weather? Well, it’s still cool! USA TODAY has re-imagined its weather coverage with:
- A large, resizable weather map featuring radar and satellite animation
- 10 day forecast
- Hourly forecast
- Weather alert support
Since its launch, USA TODAY for iPad has become one of the most downloaded apps. Users love its simplicity, clarity, 24/7 news updates and the ability to quickly scan the news to get ready for the day.

Fairly good app, but frustrating!
I start my day off reading this app as well, and I agree with some of the other reviews. Updates are not timely. Many news articles are repeated within sections and way too many articles stay on the app for too long. I absolutely hate apps that automatically play data-wasting videos. Consumers already have to endure advertisements on videos that waste data, so they should not have videos playing in background or loading and playing automatically. I have a capped data plan and I limit videos to those I choose to watch. I do not want someone else deciding for me and wasting my data. The puzzles are a favorite, but I am frustrated by the way they lock up and get stuck on old puzzles. The app will not load new puzzles. I have contacted USA Today app support and sent emails to customer support, but no one responds.
I'm surprised it's free
I've had a traveling tradition. I always read my hotel copy of USA today cover to cover. This was usually the only time I read it which was maybe a coupla times a year. I always enjoyed that vacation pastime.
So, Once I had my iPad one, I got this app. As the iPad one endured software obsolescence even though the iPads hardware itself was bulletproof. I grudgingly graduated buying my new iPad Air and the experience with this USA TODAY app is better than ever. I'm amazed the amount of content that is free here. Yah, there are ads to plow through occasionally much like a paper edition would have and I'm cool with that. Thanks for the content for my price paid.
Generally good but serious video problem
I am using an iPad2. When a USA Today video finishes, the screen goes to a collection of videos for about 3 seconds. If you see one you want to watch you have to select it EXTREMELY fast or else the next video on the list will start automatically. Then it is often impossible to find the video you wanted to watch but were not fast enough to select when the video list flashed on the screen. It is annoying and frustrating. Why not keep the video list screen in place for, say 10 seconds, to allow the user to peruse the videos and choose one instead of automatically going to the next video?
