Seriously debating switching to (GASP!) Fox News! (JK...kinda)

Cdub013

I used to love the USA Today app. Now it’s barely readable. If you’re reading a text article and one of their ads decides to play the app jumps you to that ad even if you’ve already passed the point where the ad is located. It causes you to have to scroll back down or up to wherever you were reading. Ads over content, right?! The app doesn’t differentiate clearly enough between text articles and videos. I accidentally click at least three videos a day that I simply do not want to watch. Crazy me, I thought reading the news was what the app is. Apparently they try to get you to watch videos that are not clearly identified as a video. Then when you do accidentally click a video often times you can’t quickly close it. I’ve found times where I had to close the app and start all over again to get out of that video. The Life and Sports sections are mainly opinion pieces covering every little minutiae of entertainers and athletes lives, no matter how insignificant they are. The Tech section is updated not nearly enough considering how much tech changes occur.

Overall: a very poor app. I’m slowly migrating to CNN and Apple News. Sorry USA Today but you’ve lost a fan.

Little respect for the English language

MyLewisFamily

During two decades of business travel throughout the US, I relied on USA TODAY for both national and international news. Most hotels provided a print version which I looked forward to read each morning during breakfast. Since retiring, I began reading the digital version of USA TODAY through the iPad app. Although its news is refreshed throughout the day, I am disappointed to find the digital version to be rife with spelling and grammatical errors in practically every single news article. Excluding rewritten tweets, I find sentences and paragraphs to be repeated in many articles. As I read these articles, I find the errors ridiculous, sloppy, and annoyingly unprofessional. Read a few and prove me wrong.

With the risk of misunderstandings and misinterpretations, the importance of spelling and grammar in today’s world is more essential than ever. I understand many, if not all, articles are submitted by individual contributors, but USA Today is a global newspaper and must take responsibility for everything it prints. For those careless or lazy USA TODAY contributors, can you at least use a spell checker occasionally for those of us who were educated in English?

Over all it's good, video implementation is bad

Midwest_Surf_Guy

I use it every day multiple times a day. I like it except for the way they have implemented the videos where they play an advertisement before the video. The problem is they play the same advertisement segments over and over! After a while you get so sick of hearing them that you would never by what they are advertising! The current most annoying thing is that they are slow to show the ads they have in static text articles. So you are reading along and then the text suddenly scrolls down so that you are in a different part of the article! It’s simply maddening! So now you have to scroll back up a screen or two to find your place! It’s kind of like a while back when the ads would hang and you couldn’t watch the video! I am not sure if the problem is my slow internet it their bad programming skills! When they are adding the ad content that is off the screen they SHOULD NOT CHANGE THE SCROLL!
I am guessing that the guys programming this do not use it on their iPhone otherwise they would not make such an obvious mistake.
