This is frickin awesome! 😃
Seriously though, the folks over at Rantmedia Games did an awesome job put this compilation app out for the IOS devices, also the fact it's free. 😀 This seriously makes me want to get most of those games that I don't have for the Vectrex yet. Although I have to say that there's some flaws with this app, such as if you tap on one of the game boxes twice quickly, you can't view the game box anymore unless you reset the app. Also there's some slowdowns (specially in Berzerk, although I've never experienced the vectrex version of Berzerk, but I doubt it is that slow when played on the real thing) and lagging (which can mess up your gameplay 😠). And the voices for Spike are missing. Despite these flaws, I still highly recommend this app if you're into old school video games, I also recommend using the iCade controller for arcade experience (although I don't know about the driving games such as Pole Position or Hyper Chase). I hope in the future that Rantmeda Games will fix these flaws/bugs and put in more games like Clean Sweep and Spinball. 🙂
Thank you devs!
I was in Jr High when Vectrex came out and I wanted one so bad. Only ever got to see Armor Attack for 5 minutes at a school friend's house before he had enough and it we were out the door. This app is a pure joy. I feel like the richest kid on the block in 1982. The library is amazing. [kudos to the reviewers with an even deeper knowledge of what remains to be emulated but this is a very deep collection.] I've played all the cartridges just to check them out and they all run well and load fast on my 6+. The signature vector look, remembered from the arcade machines, is well emulated. Sound's good. I don't have a game pad and that is a definite drawback but no fault of the app.
I was particularly delighted by the Scramble port. The included games could be hours of fun. The indie titles are fun too. Special mention to the card game Vector 21. Also, I never played Flappy Bird -or whatever it was called- before the Dev pulled it, but couldn't escape its legendary impact on the gaming landscape. Thanks for letting me give it a try with Veccy Bird!
This is a project worth supporting. Get in there and have some fun.
25 vector games for free
Thank you for letting me play 25 games for free. I never had a Vectrex. I bought color PC’s during the 1980’s instead of game consoles.
The overall game lobby design is excellent. Other game system emulators should emulate your design.
This is top of the line vector gaming albeit monochrome. These arcade games are hard to control via touchscreen and there is no way to improve it except with a game controller.
I enjoyed Rip Off, Scramble, one of the car race games (surprisingly not Pole Position because of lack of controller), and the sub warfare. Surprised to see soccer and football games, and Blackjack. Several redundant Asteroids and Space War games (the originals were my favorites I actually spent quarters on). First time playing Star Castle which I had heard about as a classic.
Experience the nostalgia when simple games were fun. These would be fine in a retro arcade game cabinet or tabletop with proper controls. Others have done that for a popular open source arcade games emulator with 20 free licensed game ROMs. It was also done for open source Tux Racer, and for the open source Magnetar vector game which is not on Vectrex. If Vectrex is open source it can be included.
I found three minor bugs: Continuum’s default buttons layout is opposite of display (fire = self destruct), removing Overlay repeatedly for Mine Storm prevents Overlay coming back, and one of the space games froze after losing but the menu worked to escape.
