Vermeer is built to enable photographers, videographers and content creators to execute even the most complex aerial shots without hundreds of hours of piloting experience. This is a public beta that that will test an alternative approach to drone photography and cinematography. Our approach involves designing a shot in an augmented reality environment and then sending it to the drone to execute autonomously in the real world.

In order to perform unlimited flights using the Vermeer app, you will need a subscription to the $4.99 Professional plan. Subscriptions are automatically renewed on the same date each month unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current payment period. Your iTunes account will be automatically charged at the same price for renewal within the 24-hour period prior to the end of the current payment period unless you change your subscription preferences in your iTunes Account Settings. When a subscription is canceled, access to the app's courses and features will expire at the end of the current payment period. Nothing that can’t be done on Google Earth already

It’s a cute pre-viz tool but to expect a quick AR spin around terrain fetched from Google Earth to somehow make drone flight planning a thing of the past seems flawed. Maybe it can help with the very first part of shot planning, but one telephone pole or wire that wasn’t there when you planned this thing in AR and your drone is kaput.

I like the overall idea but it seems silly at best and dangerous at worst to sell an app on the idea that you can remove a qualified pilot from the loop and just “fly the camera” now, with no worries on the pulling end. In an industry where there already is a disconnect between what directors want and what can be realistically done with drones, this app is setting up for some serious disappointment with filmmakers. Maybe one day, but for now, this is a fancy AR app that dumps a few waypoints and calls piloting obsolete.

Industry game changer

This is the coolest thing I have ever seen. I am a cinematographer on commercials, tv, and film. I work with aerial drone camera operators more and more as that technology has hit our industry. Using Vermeer not only as a previsualization tool, but to scout, plan and execute a camera move, in AR, from anywhere on the planet, is truly game-changing. I would expect nothing less from these folks who have pioneered professional aerial cinematography in Hollywood.

Easy 3D preps

Easy peasy, this app makes it so much easier to plan your route. I would give it 6 stars but that’s not possible. Glad it’s finally
Launched because I’ve also tried doing this with google earth and gosh, it doesn’t work nearly as spectacular as Vermeer.
