Create whiteboard animations quickly and easily.

Whiteboard videos look great. They’re captivating, engaging and fun. And they work. Research shows that they get remembered, shared and recommended more – and lead to more sales – than other forms of video.

But how do you make one?

With VideoScribe it’s easy. Simply add images and text to the canvas and watch VideoScribe magically turn them into a powerful animated video. Pick an original soundtrack or record your own voiceover to add another dimension to your animation.

What happened to features?

I'm frustrated with the new version. I can't figure out how to adjust images or change drawing vs sliding. Exporting now costs extra, I see. But I can't even tell what are paid and free features of the new version.

I'm confused. What do I need to pay for? How do I unlock? Why did I pay for the app to begin with? Do I have to start over on the Scribe I have to finish this week? Do I have to pay to do so?

I checked the help documents and tutorials. I could only find ones for the previous version.

UPDATED REVIE: Don't Upgrade to "VideoScribe Anywhere"

Original Review below the update:

UPDATE: I just updated the app in the app store. It's no longer called "VideoScribe," but now is called "VideoScribe Anywhere," which would be fine if it worked.

Well, it does work, but they've removed some incredibly important features, like camera positioning. It used to be that you could place the camera wherever you wanted and lock that in with a control in the timeline, but now the app just zooms in to the size of the drawing you're creating and then zooms to the next drawing. They've removed an important element of control.

Second, there's now an animated pigeon the encourages you to take a tour of the app. That's fine, except that every time you close a scribe you're working on, that darn pigeon shows up to congratulate you on finishing the tour. Minor issue, but obviously they didn't do enough quality control on the app before submitting it.

Third, the "contact" button on the "pigeon popup" takes you to Safari, but no web content loads, so you can't actually contact them.

This is a sloppy update that killed some of the most important features of the software. Unless they update it again and restore the important functionality (and get rid of the darn pigeon and its glitchy support mechanism), it's no longer really usable to produce anything useful.

Sorry, Sparkol; you blew it on this. If you restore the functionality, I'll gladly update the review again.

This is a great app that's easy to use, a lot of fun, and makes something that would be extremely hard to do in the real-world a snap on the iPad.

If you've ever seen those awesome educational videos with the sound of a lecture accompanied by video a skilled artist drawing illustrations to accompany the talk, you've seen what this app is about. And this app makes it possible to do that sort of video project without having to hire a cartoonist, without having to videotape the cartoonist drawing on a white board, and without having to coordinate camera moves with the drawings, and with the talk. It all happens seamlessly in this app.

Importing the stock illustrations (and there are a LOT of them) is simple, recording narration is a breeze, making the timings work with the narration is easy, and everything just happens like magic.

The developer is extremely responsive to questions, and when I had a problem importing an illustration of my own (made in the awesome iPad app Inkscape), they had an answer for me within half an hour. That's great customer service!

Improvement will come in the next update, I'm told, but for now, there's a little clunkiness in entering the location of the SVG image you're wanting to import. Also, I'm told that with the next release, you'll be able to export your clip to the camera roll for sharing or further editing in iMovie or your editing app of choice. If everything works as advertised in the next update, I'll be bumping my rating up to 5 stars, even though I do agree with one of the other reviewers that the logo on the output is a bit off-putting, but it is a pretty small price to pay for the quality of the output of the app. Still, I'd like the ability to remove the logo -- I'd even pop an additional 99 cents for that ability as an in-app purchase.
