Virtru makes email encryption easy. Set it up in just a minute using your existing email address and just flip a switch for any message you want to protect. Your message and any file attachments, including pictures, can only be decrypted by people you authorize.
• Client-side encryption. Messages are encrypted before they leave your phone and remain secure no matter where they travel.
• You authorize who has access to your content. No one else can decrypt (not even your mail provider).
• Supports email messages and file attachments, including pictures.
Virtru Basic encryption is completely free and not limited in any way. Send and receive as many messages as you want.
If you want even more control over your content or need to use Virtru for business emails or compliance, upgrade to Virtru Pro to:
• Revoke access to messages and attachments even after they've been opened.
• Set expiration dates for your messages.
• See and control where your messages are forwarded.
• Set DLP rules to detect and automatically encrypt certain sensitive content.
• View real-time read receipts to see when recipients have accessed your encrypted messages.
• Helps enable HIPAA, FERPA, CFPB, and CJIS compliance.
Virtru is easy for your recipients too -- they don't even need to install anything to read and reply to your messages. And if they want to send their own secure messages, they can download our free app or plug-in.
With Virtru, you don’t need a separate account — use it with Gmail or any other email provider. You can send secure messages to anyone anywhere, regardless of their email provider or what software they use to read their email. Virtru also works on your desktop with free plug-ins for Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Outlook.
Virtru is secure (256-bit encryption) and completely private (only you and your intended receives can access your content). Virtru’s basic service is completely free.
Just install the app and you’ll be sharing with confidence in less than a minute.

This app doesn’t save drafts!!!
I’ve been burned several times while writing an email on my phone with this app. If a call comes in while you are writing something, there is some finite time you have before this €%%#¥!! Virtru application IRRETRIEVABLY DELETES YOUR ENTIRE EMAIL!
I just lost an hour of writing due to this, I have to completely rewrite it from scratch. I appreciate the functionality of this when it does work, but the downside risk of completely losing all your work if you get a phone call on your phone (!!) makes this a devil’s bargain. I have no clue why any corporation would actually pay them for this, it’s nearly unusable.
I’ll keep it until something better comes along, but will have to remember to write my entire emails in Notepad and copy over so I actually can send the email. I have concerns if this obvious basic problem exists- then how secure is their actual encryption and system protection process thought through?
Developer Response ,
Sorry that that has happened to you - spending an hour working on anything to lose it is horribly frustrating. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Our developers are looking into it right now. Look out for a fix soon!
Also in the future, feel free to reach out to our support team directly at email@example.com. They're very helpful in most situations, and it helps us fix the issue if we can dig into what's going on.
I’ve been using this app for a couple of years now. I don’t use it regularly, but I do use it. I’ve never had any issues up until a month or so ago, when I sent 2 emails, both on my iPhone, at different times and on different weeks. The emails just vanished. The recipient never got it, it was not in my sent folder, draft folder or anywhere. Which was concerning and quite a pain. Other than these recent issues it has been great. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren’t for the recent issues. Still very good app!

Hi srmorer221, thank you for letting us know about this. We'd love to dig further into exactly what happened here. Would you be able to reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org so we can gather some more information?
add support for multiple email addresses
I use Virtru both for work and personal email, but this client only supports one address at a time. If I get an encrypted message to my personal account, I have to go through the cumbersome process of opening it in the web reader, or otherwise remove my work email from the app so I can use it with my personal account. Please join the 21st century and add support for multiple email addresses/accounts in the Virtru iOS client.
Developer Response ,
Thank you for the feedback! We actually started supporting multiple accounts a while ago in version 2.5.0. I've let our product team know that this wasn't clear enough and they've agreed to make it more apparent in the next release. For now, click the hamburger menu button in the top left -> swipe right to go to the accounts screen -> click the plus icon in the top right.
