The Virtual Hope Box (VHB) is a smartphone application designed for use by patients and their behavioral health providers as an accessory to treatment. The VHB contains simple tools to help patients with coping, relaxation, distraction, and positive thinking. Patients and providers can work together to personalize the VHB content on the patient's own smartphone according to the patient's specific needs. The patient can then use the VHB away from clinic, continuing to add or change content as needed.
Patients can use the VHB to store a variety of rich multimedia content that they find personally supportive in times of need. For example, a patient can include family photos, videos and recorded messages from loved ones, inspirational quotes, music they find especially soothing, reminders of previous successes, positive life experiences and future aspirations, and affirmations of their worth in their VHB. A patient can also collaborate with their provider to create coping cards to use in response to personal problem areas they experience. Finally, the VHB provides the patient with positive activity planning, distraction tools, and interactive relaxation exercises including guided imagery, controlled breathing and muscle relaxation.

I am a trauma survivor of childhood, adolescent, and adult physical, sexual, torture, and psychological abuse. I may not have been in combat (can’t even imagine! God Bless You all!!) but I do have a significant trauma history and PTSD/DID that leads to self destructive behaviors, suicidal thinking, flashbacks, and memory loss. Thank you for saving my life on Wednesday night. I can’t get myself to call or tell anyone but the coping cards I’ve created with my counselor and the distraction tools allowed me to delay my impulsive thoughts and ultimately not engage in harmful behaviors. So thank you!
this helps me a lot with suicidal thoughts
this app helps me when I’m feeling suicidal by giving me quotes, allowing me to enter my own pictures of my loved ones to do picture puzzles and supplying me with hotlines I can call if I hurt myself or need help. im not a part of the military but found this app through a friend whose therapist recommended it. im sad that my app crashed though, i can’t open it anymore so I deleted it and am redownloading it now. stay safe readers, sending love to anyone who uses this app for similar reasons or is needing an app to help them cope with self destructive behavior.
I am a therapist that works with youth. This is an app that I use myself as well as recommend to all of my teens. It is an easy way to recall healthier ways of dealing with overwhelming emotions, at times when we can’t think as clearly. As emotions are ever changing, this app can help someone in changing how they deal with life’s struggles. This has been very helpful in teaching youth new ways to live a happier life.
I am still getting the error message though for not having Touch ID or Passcode enabled.
