VisualSniff is a handy tool to help you to visualize network activity. The tool can be used to replay network captures collected with Wireshark, TCPDump or similar PCap based sniffers or to display live network communication information visually!
What's New in Version 1.02
Resolves crashes in Snow Leopard.
Adds ability to control host decay (Preferences).
Moved all configuration options for display into Preferences.
Resolved live interface issue.
Missing oh so much.
This was a good looking app. Like a tool from a decade ago called Net X-Ray. It looks pretty and it spins and it does light up when traffic goes across. That is about it. Nothing is clickable. Nothing gives details. I see no way of determing the amount of traffic between two points. You can not even expand or zoom or refresh. This tool answers one question, is my switch busy YES.
I would love to see statistics between two points. Hardware addressing and resolution names as well as the ability to filter in on one device and everything that has connected to or from it. There is so much potential here and rather than tip of the iceberg there is just a cool breeze right now.
Support is great, nice tool
These folks respond quickly if you have an issue. VisualSniff wouldn't work out of the box for me, but three email exchanges later and I'm up and running! Nice tool, great price.
I was hoping this was at least a remix of the FOSS tool: Etherape that I use on Linux, which I should have just installed via MacPorts or compiled from source. I thought I'd give this a try. It only reads PCap files, which you have to create with other packet capture tools. It does NOTHING in real time by itself. You can run a sniffer to write pcap files and then display with this, but it doesn't have any filters or other useful parameters. This is the first time I've felt like some kid posted a school "proof of concept" application in the Mac App store. I should have read the reviews, and now I am writing one. I was sloppy, I saw the display which looked like other tools I use and assumed it was self-contained functional, it's just a display / visualization tool, not a sniffer.
