How deep is your voice? Do you have an undulating pitch or a low monotone? Our algorithm analyses your voice and compares it with data from over 150 celebrities to let you understand your voice and learn how to improve it.
The Standard version of the app gives you a full analysis of your voice in terms of depth and variety and calculates a set of celebrity matches to give you a grounding of what your results mean.
The Pro version helps you improve your voice. Currently this includes an on-the-fly pitch tracker - so you can practise different ways of speaking and immediately see their effect - as well as unlimited archive space, celebrity comparison graphs, and a charting tool so you can track your progress over time.
We’re working to expand Vocular to other areas too. We want to cover things like smoothness, nasality, vocal fry, even creating a rating of how attractive your voice currently is, based on the latest research. If you want to get the most out of your vocal chords, this is the app for you.
We've merged the Pro version features into the standard version to give users the best possible experience.
Also, tweaks here and there and a couple of bug fixes.
Ratings and Reviews
The idea is cool, but it’s no more useful than the free voice recorder that comes with every iPhone.
I paid $2.00 for this app. It is beautifully designed, but as the title says, it isn’t more useful than the free voice recorder app I was already using before trying this app.
Also this app has already 2 bugs I noticed. The real-time pitch detector is overlayed on the text in the background, so you can’t even see what pitch you’re getting half the time because the texts are overlayed on top of each other.
Secondly, and VERY annoying, is the notifications don’t work. I keep getting notified once per hour to do my daily voice recording, but I already did it twice this morning! The app somehow isn’t coded to recognize that I’ve already done it, so it is continuing to send me push notifications thinking that I haven’t done it yet. It’s so annoying.
Sorry, but I don't really understand this criticism. Firstly, this app is completely different to the voice recorder that comes with your iPhone. Vocular records your voice and analyses it for depth, variance and vocal fry then scans your recording over a database of 150+ famous voices to put it into context. The free voice recorder doesn't do any of these things, it simply records your voice and then displays it as a waveform which is amplitude, not pitch.
Secondly, what is the text in the background? When I enable the pitch tracker, no other text appears on the screen. The only thing I can imagine is that the frequency figure gets overlaid with the 'new user' prompts (which I'll look into), but these prompts should disappear after you've used the app five times.
I do apologise for the third point though. You make a good point in that, if you've already made a recording, you should not get a notification for that day. We'll definitely change that for you. I've never heard of a case where someone's been notified per hour though. I'll look into this and rectify it too.
Out of interest though, is there something you were hoping this app would do that it doesn't? I ask because, as a regular user of this app, I wouldn't even put it in the same category as a basic voice recorder. So I wonder whether you were buying it for something other than its analytical features?
Fun and addictive
Look forward to each time the app reminds me to do a recording.

It causes me to focus and practice!
