Volume for iTunes

By Yogi Patel

Open the Mac App Store to buy and download apps.

Volume for iTunes enables you to control your iTunes volume via the system volume.

If you're like me and play music through remote speakers, you know that the keyboard volume buttons don't do anything — they only change the system volume, not the music's volume*.

Now you can change iTunes' volume with the keyboard. No need to switch apps or find little volume adjusters.

*Note: to adjust system volume while Volume for iTunes is active, hold the command key while pressing the volume keys.

What's New in Version 1.2

✓ Fixes additional keys not working (brightness, forward, reverse, play/pause, etc). Sorry about that!

Seriously, thanks to the dev for creating this tiny but massively useful app! You’ve addressed something that has been driving me crazy for a long time- the ability to change the volume of the music coming out of my Airport speakers without having to leave the project I’m working on (ie. go to iTunes). And I am truly grateful for this.

I’m not what everyone’s problem is regarding having to hold Command to control the system volume- this makes so much sense. Please don’t change it!

If you are getting this app it’s becuase you want to control iTunes volume without having to go into iTunes… hijacking your keyboard volume buttons for this feature makes perfect sense. What wouldn’t make sense is a button that does two things at once… i.e. the volume buttons controlling both iTunes and the system volume. No, it makes way more sense to build in the secondary Command+ option so you can control them independently. So again I say- developer please don’t change this!

Does exactly what it's supposed to do...

The name of the app is iTunes Volume Control, and that is exactly what is does, lets you control itunes volume using your keyboard or remote. Not "link iTunes Volume To System Volume" so i don;t know why that is what people are expecting it to do…. But this is perfect for me because for some weird reason, you can't change the system volume when you are using optical output, and i just got a remote for that reason so i could use my mac as a music player with the remote. so this app was the perfect quick, and permanent, fix. but for those people who still think this app is called "Link iTunes Volume to System Volume", maybe you should just add a simple option to do just that ;)

Simple solution to aggrevating problem!

I bought an Asus display for my Macbook Pro (connected via HDMI) and was unable to control the volume of my music by pressing keys on the keyboard as I always have. I was surprised when I realized that the volume control in iTunes still worked but this wasn’t a viable solution as it wasn’t nearly as convenient as pressing a key on the keyboard. The Volume for iTunes app solves this problem. A small, quick, fool-proof app. that does exactly what I wanted. THANK YOU to the developer! In the next release you should consider adding optional audio/visual response key-press indicators similar to the spreaker icon and blip noise of the system sound adjustment.
