A few minuses, but glad VueScan exists
I’ve been using the paid version of VueScan for years, and I’m thankful that the developers continue to maintain it.
I have three little complaints:
1. It would be great to use to newer Dropbox save integration, as the old one has been dead for years now. Or take it out of the save menu?
2. Often, hitting “save” and then “other” renders a share extension sheet that’s blank, and never fully loads. When this happens, nothing really works except emailing the scan to myself, which is okay, but fairly annoying to have to resort to. I used to like to not add my everyday email account to my phone since I don’t like Apple’s mail app, and it takes a ton of storage, but when the save/share extension doesn’t work, there’s little other choice but to keep it.
3. I’m using this in place of Canon’s pretty gross app for one of its few-years-old inkjet MFPs. I far prefer VueScan as far as its comparatively friendly interface, but the Canon app scans significantly faster for some reason, with all of the same settings (dpi, color settings, page size, adf vs platen). I’d guess it may even scan twice as quickly. I know that part of the awesomeness of VueScan is in its ability to work with many, many different printers, but I do wish that the developers could at least add info as to whether there is no newer/better option as far as specific manufacturer integrations/drivers/sdks.
This is my second review and I have to say, just keeps getting better!
I'm a user of Hamrick's desktop product under the same name, and this phone app is not just a great companion but by itself as well.
These days there are many apps that make your phone into a scanner, and this does as well, but if you also have a networked scanner it's very useful too! I've gotten used to putting docs into my multifunctional printer's doc feeder, then scanning them all at once and emailing it right to a client, all out of the phone.
And to state again, Hamrick's VueScan is considered one of the best shareware products EVER; he never let's his products rest, he is constantly adding new machines to work with it, fixing problems and improving the output. There is constant updating, and if you have a problem he will work with until it's solved; his attitude toward customer service is IMHO, unmatched.
If you have a scanner that's collecting dust, even if the manufacturer doesn't make drives for them anymore, check the list of compatible scanners, you'll probably find it and in some cases, it will have more features than the original!
The iPhone app is great for road warriors, scans fast, clear (make sure your lens is clean!), and you can email or send a fax through a service.
I've used Hamrick's products for about 20 years and it's never let me down!...
It Just (no longer) Works :)
EDIT: for anyone considering this in 2018 - it once was a great app, now it's abandoned. Hasn't been updated since 2016, it stopped working with my scanner a while back, I just went to export my old scans and found it no longer talks to Dropbox (Dropbox API updated in 2017, VueScan never updated), so I had to email myself dozens of scans one at a time. Was once a 5-star app. No longer.

VueScan makes me happy every time I use it - when I start it up it latches onto the printer/scanner (a Canon MP620) on our home network, is instantly ready to scan, and performs flawlessly - the scanner is easier to use from my iPhone than from my laptop - so much so that I often end up scanning with VueScan on my phone and then transferring the files to my laptop via Dropbox.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
