The WalkPittsburgh.org mobile app includes a pedometer that counts your steps for each walking session and stores your walking data into the WalkPittsburgh.org database, allowing the program to measure its success on both a neighborhood and regional scale!

WalkPittsburgh.org will track your individual walking metrics, display the total statistics of the walkers in your neighborhood, show how your neighborhood statistics measure up against other Pittsburgh area neighborhoods and also display the overall results from all walkers in the program.

WalkPittsburgh.org aims to reduce the city's carbon footprint, encourage individuals to stay healthy and promote safe walking as a commuting alternative in Allegheny County!

Calibration does not work

On an iPhone 4, I was unable to get a successful calibration after following the directions multiple times. Each time the app claims the calibration was successful but no steps were counted during the calibration nor subsequent sessions.

Moreover the distance travelled during a session is quoted at 4 to 5 times the actual distance travelled and the time appears to be the display time in the app, not the actual time walked. Finally, the personal results do not appear to get properly submitted or retained on the individual level.

In short, this app completely fails to do what is promised. The root cause may be the failure to calibrate properly.
