Hoping it will get better
I tried to like this game, I really did, and it's easy to, great graphics, great mechanics, I love almost everything about it. But until the developers make it were I don't have to shoot at someone 45 times before I bloody hit them, or swing at someone a block away 7 times while using damage potions before hitting them, this game isn't getting above a 3, and that's generous. I'm sick of going through dungeons and burning through 2 turns in a row of just the "miss" icon, these are sodding professional adventurers, they aren't going to miss something 2 feet away 6 times IN A ROW. I just played through a dungeon where my marauder didn't LAND A SINGLE F****** HIT. NOT TO MENTION that if you're going to make enemies randomly spawn that often, don't make them spawn 3 rooms back just because they are within sight. And if you're going to have a mechanic that can make enemies spawn 4 times before I can even advance to the next room at least let me keep the magic I had the round before. Also why can't you let us store at least 10 magic? THESE ARE ADVENTURERS NOT KIDS, A TRAINED WIZARD DOESNT ACCIDENTALLY SPAWN IN ENEMIES 4 TIMES IN A ROW AND HE CAN SURELY KEEP SOME MAGIC STORED. Sometimes they spawn again before I'm back at the place I started the attack from. I take back my 3 you're lucky I'm giving this a 2.
Could have been great
A lot of the dungeons provide a challenge. You stand a real chance of losing some characters. And then there are the times where necromancers and vampires spawn back to back. This isn't a challenge, it's literally a slaughter. Normally, that might seem like hyperbole, but, no, when a single necromancer can disable your entire party each turn with one spell (that has no counter, works at any distance, and doesn't even require line of sight) and simultaneously raise 4 or 5 new enemies, and then, because you literally can't take any actions, eventually (though, really it's usually just a turn or two) a vampire spawns with 4 attacks per turn who can ALSO disable your entire party with one spell...that's a slaughter. I actually get annoyed that they don't kill my characters faster when this happens (which is every 4th or 5th dungeon once you get to 3rd level) because it's boring to just hit "end turn" over and over as my characters literally can't take any actions. Boring and stupid ruining an otherwise really nice game.
Great game for iPad
Good: Gameplay, music, inventory system, quests
Bad: Starting area too small, too expensive for extra characters, limited replay value
I rarely play games on iPad. They're not THAT much fun and I have PC. Yet one of the reasons I bought my iPad was to play this game, as it was not available on other devices at the time.
The game itself is great for what you get with the initial purchase. It follows the rules of the original game almost exactly. I commend the designers for recognizing a good thing. All too often when a tabletop game is ported to digital, something gets lost in translation. That is NOT the case here.
The bad part is that the starting area only gives you about 15 hours of gameplay. After that you have to buy other areas to explore. That would be alright, except after that time, the game becomes a little repetitive.
The extra characters you can buy are overpriced, and after you buy them, do you really want to grind through the same game again (assuming you didn't buy them as your starting characters)?
In summary, a MUST own game for iPad. iPhone too small to really enjoy this game. Do not need the extra content to have fun.
