It was a friend of mine who pointed out that if I had DirecTV I could also have this app on my cellphone. The ability to view live video is wonderful since it's a technological advance I never expected. And it comes at no extra cost. The app is so intuitively set out. I'm no genius but even I could see how easy it is to see at any time of the day or night what live broadcasts are available to view. And that's just page one of the app. On succeeding pages one can see what shows are upcoming. One can also get shows that are being re-aired. You can also check for what individual sports are or will be available. So what's to lose? Install the app and have some free entertainment.
Nice coverage. However, play by play guy & primary analyst "don't seem to get along all that well" I realize a different pt. of view is encouraged to create viewer conversation & to keep viewers attn. But usually after an exchange of different opinions, someone will create a bit of levity to diffuse any suspicion of acrimony. Throughout the telecast I didn't hear any "chuckles", so to speak. With the "World Wide" leader & the present narrative of fair & equal discipline. I enjoyed both pts. of view & wouldn't be happy if either was disciplined. Especially if it was unjust & "over the top". I don't know how long this team has worked together, but I felt a lot tension between the two & for me that took away from game. Then again, who am I? I just was asked to rate this thing. My rating is 3.5. It would've been 4.5 with a bit of clever high jinx to enjoy.
Does its job, most of the time
This app is helpful if you're the only sports fan in your household. It works well on a Google Chromecast. It's also nice when your team is playing on ESPN3 and you can't find it on a local channel. However, there are some annoying things about this and what ESPN has done. First of all, you get the same 3 ads during commercial breaks whenever you watch any of the channels. The worst part of this app, are the local listings/blackouts. I live on the east coast and am a big ACC football/basketball fan, and often times these games (unless broadcasted on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU) will be blacked out, even though it says they're available to stream on ESPN3. Why would you blackout a game in an area where 95% of your target audience resides? Yeah, annoying. All in all, a good app but ESPN could make some adjustments.
