Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements
This app would be five stars if it weren't for two annoyances that always come up. Every time I watch a game live or on tape delay, the app always freezes when going to commercial break or in the middle of the game. I have to always restart it and pick it up where it left off and then for some reason, it plays fine after that. It will play another 10 minutes and then freeze again. It doesn't matter if I'm on Wi-Fi, a hardline, or no Wi-Fi at all. It happens every single time. Another problem is if I get a phone call, and when the phone call ends, I get this disclaimer that says "unable to play video" then I have to log out of the app, go back into the app, and find where it left off. You would think with ESPN being a billion-dollar company, they would figure out how to fix these problems. These problems are so common, but yet ESPN never seems to fix it. Please fix it. If you do, this app would be beyond five stars. Thank you.
This app finally became available to me this past week as Buckeye CableSystem finally supported it and, so far, I love it. Have been able watch games in various places around my house and out of the house before other events such as plays and during intermission. Particularly looking forward to watching games not carried on one of ESPN's regular channels on my iPad mini with retina display. My only concern with watching things using Verizon LTE is that I'll chew up my monthly allowance in no time. May have to opt for better data plan now that I have this app. ;-)
Still LOVE this app! Love being able to watch games that aren't being televised on one of the ESPN broadcast channels. Still mostly use it at home on wifi because it really chews up data if you run it on cellular connection.
First things first. The fact that there is a watchEspn app is fantastic. It provides access to sporting events in great detail when no cable service is available.
For myself, being able to see cricket matches in their entirety is absolutely great. Cricket is the sport I grew up with and the coverage of the test matches in England this summer has been superb. Now for my reservations: I cannot believe how often the same commercials and PSAs are repeated. Makes viewing a nuisance. Worse even is that these interruptions come at crucial moments when we are shown a replay or hear some very insightful commentary on what is happening in the game. It is as if whoever operates the channel has no appreciation for the game or its viewers.
But, bottom line, I am glad watchEspn exists. Very glad.
