Great Idea, Poor UX
I love sports of all kinds and this app has darn near everything I could ask to watch. HOWEVER.
The glaring problem in this app is the connectivity issues. Certain apps, like Google Maps, are able to increase their strength to provide reliable usage through low-service areas... Not this app. If the service bumps even a little, it takes the app between 3-10 minutes to recover a steady stream. INCREDIBLY annoying while I'm on the Interstate attempting to watch my Dawgs play. Every time I hit a dead spot, rather than a quick transition to audio and a polite message telling me the video will recover, it stutters through several minutes of lag and finally freezes completely. Force-closing the app and reopening reveals that I now have perfect signal strength. The transitions should be smoother and should be able to detect poor signal better. Better yet, give me the OPTION to watch a very poor video quality if I so desire. Bottom line is that the app suffers when not on a completely reliable connection.
Also, the CONSTANT prompts to write a review of the app are very annoying. I understand giving a suggestion maybe once every 30 minutes, but every time I close a stream? No. Please stop.
if only zero stars were a choice
where do i even begin. hands down, one of the worst apps I've ever used. horribly inefficient, the UI is hideous and the options presented to viewers for sports is highly lacking. inexplicably will just cut out after watching a game for an hour with an error message saying the video is unavailable. SOMETIMES it will work if you close the app and restart it. usually if i have the willpower i just have to button mash until the video works again. other videos just don't work at all. Never a problem with American sports but the minute you want to watch something outside of football or basketball the app falls apart. if i could give it zero stars i would. if i had another option to watch rugby, i would switch. please, please, PLEASE whoever from ESPN whose job is to read these, if they even staff someone to, PLEASE fix this train wreck of an app. if you're in charge of the main espn scorecenter app, burn that and start over because that app has never been reliable.
Perfect Idea-Poor User Experience(UX)
Watch ESPN is invaluable. The sheer amount of content provided is massive. There is literally always something on for you to watch. Whether that is Monday Night Football to Heroes of the Storm PC game tournaments to Sportscenter. It also provides a massive list of carriers. However, the UX (user experience) is just average. Often I have to close the app, open multitasker, swipe up, then reopen app to get updated schedules. Seems like that would be something updated automatically. Also, when using devices with less resources the app doesn't automatically adjust to this. For example, I stream on my Chromebook then output to my tv but I cannot watch a full game because it is so choppy it is like watching a flip book sports game. Maybe I am spoiled by the Netflix UX but hey, when you expect something to just work you expect bit to just work.
