Wayward Souls is an action-adventure game built for quick playthroughs and massive amounts of replay value. It was inspired by Spelunky, Secret of Mana, and our previous game, Mage Gauntlet.
Procedurally generated random levels mean that every time you play the game, it's a different experience. Control one of six characters, all with their own unique playstyles, abilities, and equipment. Explore and fight for survival, in combat where your tactics, positioning, and timing matter.
- Fancy control scheme with no virtual buttons or sticks to fumble over.
- Unlock new areas, for increasingly punishing difficulty.
- 13 area types, all with different monsters, potential traps, and rare encounters.
- Each character can find equipment combinations that change their gameplay.
- Victory is based on your increasing skill as a player, not solely on grinding.
- No IAP ever, even for the hats. All content updates will be free for our fans.
- Unprecedented scope and variety for an action-adventure game on iOS, maybe anywhere.
Another update is being planned! Expect a new character to play as in 1st quarter of 2016.

What's New in Version 1.30
Here's a new major update, with another one coming soon. In an update in early 2016, we're adding a final new character: the Paladin. He'll have his own mode and story, and this Paladin Update will include other features from the upcoming PC version.
New in this update:
- Major new feature: Pet system! You now have a small chance of finding different pets in the dungeon. Some pets attack, some provide stat bonuses.
- New sprites and animations for the different pets.
- Testing a better animation system with more frames for walk animations. Using the pets to test them for now, let us know what you think!
- Tweaks and fixes.
- New rare content and rooms added.

This is an ACTUAL VIDEO GAME in the App Store. This game is a blast, controls easily, and possesses an overall GREAT game-feel!
This game is thematically dark and VERY challenging. The bright and contrastingly varied visuals of its predecessor, "Mage Gauntlet", have been replaced with dismal, all-pervasive, dungeon looks and vibes.
This game is all meat. Constant, real time, combat is what this game is all about.
The main characters are well-designed. They are visually delightful - heavily reminiscent of character sprites seem in Square Enix's "Chrono Trigger".
The developer of this game clearly takes pride in his work. "Wayward Souls" is a true, soulful, game - entirely removed from the many cheap cash grabs that plague the Apple App Store.
There are NO IN APP PURCHASES.
This game has been out for a while, and the next update promises a completely new character to choose to play as!
I am thrilled to have been playing this game since it first released. It has not lost its replay value. Such a gem of a game!
To any reading this, I would highly suggest checking out other games from this developer - most notably "Mage Gauntlet"
Close To Perfection
Latest Review- Fantastic game but it crashes when I teleport in the catacombs! Please fix, thanks :)
Best game on my IPhone. Premium game with no IAPs! The soundtrack and gameplay is gorgeous. With the first big update, RocketCat has fixed a bunch of small glitches and made the game much better. Just beat the final dungeon, great story. I just wish they added achievements this update as you don't receive anything upon beating labyrinth. Some new music would also be appreciated for the 4th level :) Doesn't take up much space or drain too much battery. Love how challenging the game is, makes you feel you actually accomplished something when you beat it lol Such a great game!! Can't wait for future updates.
Great ... But
Wayward Souls is a fantastic little game, but fundamentally misunderstands the appeal of the difficulty curve in the games it tries to emulate--namely Dark Souls. The difficulty of the third act and beyond is ludicrous, and the lack of loot that comes from running it makes even trying feel repetitive, frustrating, and ultimately fruitless. The recent update has addressed this partially, making things slightly easier on the hero (while adding an incredibly buggy, over sensitive auto-screen flip feature) and is overall a vast
improvement. More updates are promised, and over time, with more balance fixes, the game has the potential to be incredible. Right now, it's simply halfway there.
