What's New in Version 4.2.0
- Bug fixes and stability improvements
Bugs are getting annoying
I love Waze. I really do. I use it every day. I have the habit that I don't start my engine until Waze is up and my phone is in my phone holder. It saves my sanity during rush hour in my city. However there are some bugs. The more recent versions failing to ever route me and I have to force restart. Or like another reviewer said, the favorites NEVER save the order correctly when you relaunch the app.
My #1 pet peeve right now is that during the last major re-do several months ago, the "Lock North Up" mode broke. It does not work even if you set it in the settings. Even if I lock it up manually, it'll come unlocked while I'm driving or looking at the map. Not only is this extremely annoying, but it is DANGEROUS and distracting. When I am actually going somewhere new, I think I am facing one direction and thought I was turning one way but on the map it looks like another direction entirely. Then I get confused and start fumbling with my phone, which is now against the law here while your vehicle is moving.
I've reported the north lock issue multiple times and it's listed as a "known issue" that still isn't fixed. Not even with this last update. I'm getting extremely frustrated and it makes me want to stop using the app. Google bought out Waze and now the app quality just keeps going downhill.
A truly "essential"
If you haven't tried Waze and you are still using your Tom Tom or Magellan, please do yourself a big favor and try this app! If you're using the Google maps app, and noting the traffic information, guess what? It probably came from Waze.
The app offers not just up to date but virtually up to the minute map and traffic information because people just like you are continually contributing to the traffic (and short cut!) information. Because of it's social structure, the more people on Waze, the more current and more accurate the map is. For each destination, it offers alternate routes and each route displays the queue of hazards, traffic delays, police sightings, etc. so you have an idea of what to expect on your journey. If you pick an alternate route and deviate from it so that the route has to be recalculated, the app will jump back to the primary route after the recalculation, which can be frustrating if you aren't expecting it, but that's the only item that I think needs improvement, and I wouldn't call it a bug.
I use this app every day and it is the #1 most valuable app for travel IMHO.
Waze makes it fun and simple and social to get from point A to B!
I downloaded Waze after one of my colleagues used it on a drive back from the Upper Peninsula to help cut off 30 min to an hour of traffic by taking back roads. I am not too frequent of a commuter and maybe drive on average 2.5 - 3.0 hours on a weekly basis; however even for a low commuter like me I could see the app paying dividends. Right away it began shaving time off of my commutes. I found myself becoming a more useful driver and tagging hazards such as road construction, cars pulled to the shoulder, ice, and a police car slowing traffic down near an accident. It has been highly satisfying to see people thumbs up my hazard reports and to see my little baby Waze profile grow into an adult Waze as I contribute to the driving community with reports. I love how even before I leave I get such a granular look at the speed of the roads near the parking structure and leading to the main highways. It has helped me become a better planner and commuter especially after I synced Waze to my Google Calendar! Thank you for making driving fun and simple and social Waze!
