What's New in Version 4.4.6
- Bug Fixes
It is hard to write a review separating the app from the hardware. The MyCloud solution does pretty much what it claims to do. I do understand the frustration of a few of the reviewer's because the documentation is dreadful. Several viewers said that the streaming worked great but they couldn't get the photo sharing to work. I am having the exact opposite problem, i've got the photo stuff figured out but I can't get the streaming to work. Go figure. But since I bought the device for photo applications, at the moment I am happy. Someone please, put together a decent owners manual for this device. Some will say "you just have to search the web". But the problem with that is that if you don't know the correct term for what you are trying to do, you don't always have the ability to find it.
Nice App for streaming but limited for photos
The app does what is claimed, you can stream movies to iOS devices without problems, access media and still connect to the Internet while accessing the external device. It imports pictures and movies from SD cards without any hesitation and stores the files in daily unique folders. Viewing pictures is a little slow even when I'm right next to the external HD (Wireless Pro), the biggest issue I have is that I cannot select multiple pictures and directly save them to iOS photos (it allows only one) -
one can copy them to an iOS shared folder, which is useless when no internet is available or expensive. The other issue I have is that - as many other iOS apps - it cannot view Fuji raw files (RAF).
I paid for the wifi networking solution feature of this hard drive. I wanted a personal cloud for myself to keep my data secured. But sadly this complex device is hardly a solution. It gets confusing connecting over local network and using the Internet to connect to it. And I totally have no idea if it does indeed back up all my videos and photos even after setting it up to do so. The nasty part is the way this machine files your data by default. The photos and videos that have been uploaded to the cloud are extremely scattered and disorganized. I would've just been satisfied with a normal connected hard drive. Lesson learned. This machine's wireless connection capability is a joke. What should've been a device to help manage data organization all the more made my life cluttered.
