Fun Tool to Get People Interested in Genealogy
As the title says, this is mainly an entertainment tool to get others in your family interested in their genealogy. For serious researchers, it can provide hints and an occasional breakthrough but also incorrect links. Due diligence and proper documentation would still be needed.
All purported relationships should be taken with a grain of salt and a healthy dose of skepticism until properly vetted. The links are based on the trees of others and some links will be wrong, whether due to mistaken identity, wishful thinking, or carelessness. I have encountered parent-child links that were clearly wrong when comparing the birth & death dates of both.
For celebrity families, there can be extended waits between when it discovers the first then the rest.
One irritating aspect is the marking of ancestors as Private and not showing the names when the person lived centuries ago. I can see that people might want to preserve that in their own trees or for the first 2 generations of persons still living. If you take the link to Wikipedia provided for each celebrity, that information is usually available there. If the blocked name is the common ancestor, this is maddening.
I always try to confirm that I am really related to these people and check it with other genealogy pages. For the most part it is accurate. I have one problem though, sometimes it stops at my ggg Grandmother and other times it follows the line all the way down to me. I have written them about this but have not received an answer. I still like the program but wonder how one person can be connected to so many people. Love the program overall.
We’re Related App 👍🏼👎🏻
While this app is quite entertaining you Wonder at the accuracy of the famous or infamous people who are your “cousins” while you may be quite sure of your own ancestry who’s to say theirs is accurate. Still waiting on a few that I know I’m related to but they’ve yet to come up. Some I’m sure they’re my cousins and others I just shake my head at but all in all very entertaining and interesting especially if they really are an 6th cousin 6 times removed. LOL
