Good first effort but needs work

I like this app (v1.1) but it needs some improvements to really great. I hope Columbia continues to develop. Not a good app if you are a fisherman.

Pros: Easy to use. Intuitive interface. Large number of knots included. Able to search knots by name or by six categories based on type of knot. Step-by-step illustrations and written instructions for each knot.

Cons: illustrations are OK but could be better. Written instructions are good but could be better in some cases. Very limited number of fishing knots included and there is no category for "Fishing" which I find very inconvenient. I would also add some other categories such as "boating", "hunting", "climbing".

Despite my criticisms, I like this app and intend to keep it on my iPhone as I believe (hope) Columbia will improve it. However, for the time being I will keep using Knot Guide which has better illustrations, categories and more fishing knots (but no written instructions). Eventually one of these apps may be come good enough to be my sole knot-tying app but not yet.

Not bad

Not a bad app- would recommend to beginners as it has a good selection of knots. There are some errors, though. If you look at the Double Bowline, it's instructions are correct, however the end result illustration has an error: the standing end (the "tree" if you use the classic bunny-bowline method of tying it) is overlapping the "holes," as opposed to tucked behind- as it should be. Otherwise, you are left with a totally unreliable knot. If in a rescue situation I would rather have a noose thrown at me than the "knot" in the finished illustration of the Double Bowline.

Easy to follow

I found the graphics are designed to make it easy to learn a knot. Well done guys! Five Stars!
I will say that their database for finding a knot is hard to use. For example the term 'square knot' is not listed but 'reef knot' is listed... Though they are the same knot.
I do wish there was a term for 'essential ' knots to make it easy to lean some of the basic knots.
