Description

With this app you can make behavioral observations of multiple subjects in the field.

At the press of a single button you record:
- The subject
- The action or state of the subject
- The time, date, and elapsed time since starting the session
- The location: latitude, longitude, and altitude

You can edit the subject and action labels to fit your system.
Multiple observation sessions can be stored until email reception at the analysis station is confirmed.

The data from a session can be displayed and edited in the field before emailing.

A vibration and/or sound alarm can be turned on to remind you at intervals when to make an observation. The total length of an observing session can also be set.

What's New in Version 2.0

- iPad support
- The number of observations and subjects is set by the user
- Data files can be copied to a Mac or PC through iTunes
(Requires iPhone OS 3.2 or later)
- Bugfix: Trying to email a data file when email has not been configured and enabled now generates an error message

Customer Reviews

useful for what it does, but extremely limited

The app is adequate for observations of multiple subjects performing event behaviors (behaviors that occur just once rather than continuously, like jumping, falling, raising a hand, etc), but doesn't allow for a wide range of other behaviors. I'd love it if this app could do be used to measure continuous behaviors (click once to start, click again to stop), or allow for notes or interactions (e.g. the teacher called on a student [then the user chooses which student, e.g. student X or student Y], bird #231 attacked a neighbor [then the user can input which bird was attacked, e.g. bird #12], the person ate [then the user can choose the food item, e.g. an apple, an orange, a banana], the animal hid from a predator [then the user can mark whether the action was successful/unsuccessful]). As such, it's rather limited in scope and range of applicable uses, but is perfectly satisfactory for use in particular settings.

Not able to include text notes!

Bought this app for the staff at our school to record observational data on their iPads. This app is great for tallying observations, but there is no ability to add text to the observations. This is crucial for our teachers so they can record specific details about students' behavior. When looking at the screen shots, we assumed that text could be entered into the tables. Add ability to record details with text and the app would more applicable for our educational setting.
