Open iTunes to buy and download apps.

WhatsApp Messenger is a FREE messaging app available for iPhone and other smartphones. WhatsApp uses your phone's Internet connection (4G/3G/2G/EDGE or Wi-Fi, as available) to let you message and call friends and family. Switch from SMS to WhatsApp to send and receive messages, calls, photos, videos, and Voice Messages.

• NO FEES: WhatsApp uses your phone's Internet connection (4G/3G/2G/EDGE or Wi-Fi, as available) to let you message and call friends and family, so you don't have to pay for every message or call.* There are no subscription fees to use WhatsApp.

• MULTIMEDIA: Send and receive photos, videos, and Voice Messages.

• FREE CALLS: Call your friends and family for free with WhatsApp Calling, even if they're in another country.* WhatsApp calls use your phone's Internet connection rather than your cellular plan's voice minutes. (Note: Data charges may apply. Contact your provider for details. Also, you can't access 911 and other emergency service numbers through WhatsApp).

• GROUP CHAT: Enjoy group chats with your contacts so you can easily stay in touch with your friends or family.

• WHATSAPP WEB: You can also send and receive WhatsApp messages right from your computer's browser.

• NO INTERNATIONAL CHARGES: There's no extra charge to send WhatsApp messages internationally. Chat with your friends around the world and avoid international SMS charges.*

• SAY NO TO USERNAMES AND PINS: Why bother having to remember yet another username or PIN? WhatsApp works with your phone number, just like SMS, and integrates seamlessly with your phone's existing address book.

• ALWAYS LOGGED IN: With WhatsApp, you're always logged in so you don't miss messages. No more confusion about whether you're logged in or logged out.

• QUICKLY CONNECT WITH YOUR CONTACTS: Your address book is used to quickly and easily connect you with your contacts who have WhatsApp so there's no need to add hard-to-remember usernames.

• OFFLINE MESSAGES: Even if you miss your notifications or turn off your phone, WhatsApp will save your recent messages until the next time you use the app.

• AND MUCH MORE: Share your location, exchange contacts, set custom wallpapers and notification sounds, email chat history, broadcast messages to multiple contacts at once, and more!

*Data charges may apply. Contact your provider for details.

We're always excited to hear from you! If you have feedback, questions, or concerns, please email us at:

Note: WhatsApp is a telephony app, so iPod and iPad are not supported devices.

Parents need to know that WhatsApp Messenger lets users start video calls and send encrypted text messages, videos, photos, and audio messages to one or many people with no message limits or fees until after the first year of use, when there's a $0.99 annual fee. The catch is these messages can only be sent to other smartphone users who also have WhatsApp. Once you install the app, it checks your address book to see if anyone else you know is already using WhatsApp and connects you automatically. The app also suggests allowing messages to be sent from your phone to those in your address book who aren't yet using WhatsApp, encouraging them to sign up. WhatsApp's license agreement requires users to be age 16 or older. In terms of questionable content, it's completely up to the user, but location-sharing capabilities make this app most appropriate for older teens. As of 2016 WhatsApp shares data with parent company Facebook; though users can opt out of some of the data sharing for a limited time, they can't completely opt out. Read the app's privacy policy to find out more about the types of information collected and shared.

Mr. M. Jilani. Sgt. Retired; Miami Dade County.

It has been very exciting to have this App. and I certainly appreciate it very much. It has been a blessing for 100s & Millions of people who could not afford to call or see their friend & loved ones. I have a question about some notifications that appear to ask patrons to forward certain message come from App. Administration suggesting App. Users to forward the message to at least 5, 10 or 15 people to earn qualification to use WhatsApp free. In the past I never believed the messages were authentic & never followed the instruction, and I never had any issues with WhatsApp using it. Please let us know if the messages are sent by someone claiming to be the Director or some high official of WhatsApp. I'm so thankful and appreciative of your WhatsApp & don't remember any technical difficulties that I remember ! The only thing I noticed is losing WhatsApp call when a regular is incoming & WhatsApp call gets disconnected due to no Call waiting Intimation. But that's ok, it's a free call. Thank you all. Sincerely, M. Jilani

OK but not the best; not 100% open source

Whatsapp used to be one of the best messaging apps, but has since been surpassed by others. For example, Wire has more features than whatsapp, including encrypted GROUP video calling, recalling messages, and expiring messages. Wire also respects your privacy (doesn't require a phone number or access to all of your contacts data) and is now 100% open source. Wire let's you sign up with only an email address on its web app, then sign in with email in the mobile app. Or you can register with your phone number on the app. Wire has all the other features too like group texting, voice calling, voice and video messaging, and more, all encrypted, all the time, all free with no ads. Whatsapp has recently changed their terms of service to allow whatsapp to share your phone number with their parent company, Facebook, presumably for marketing and advertising purposes. Wire is not only ad-free, but they don't create profiles of data on their users and will never share your personal information with third parties. If you like whatsapp, then you'll love Wire.
