Very useful!

Great app! Does a fairly good job identifying a font or finding something similar. My new obsession is snapping pictures of various objects with words and seeing what this app comes up with. It's not perfect; I feel like it needs more fonts in its database, and needs some improvements on letter recognition. However, it's great for what you get for free. It's a nice app for designers or anyone obsessed with typography.

Try the app for yourself to see if it is something you'll find purposeful. You have nothing to lose, especially since it's free.

Here's some tips for you if you're having problems with this app:

*Small pictures work better and faster. Resize or crop a picture if the app is taking too long to identify the font.
*Make sure the letters are clearly visible. High contrasted images (really dark words on a light background) work best.
*If you take a picture of the words going vertical (up and down), make sure you rotate the picture so the words are going horizontal (left to right). It won't work otherwise.

Comically useless.

I was trying to better reproduce some lettering on a poster for my daughter's homework. The existing letters looked almost like the "Impact", but were slightly different. They were large, white letters with a black border. Very clear and easy to read. I loaded up this app to identify the font so I made sure I could duplicate it correctly.
No matter how many pictures I took, the program could not identify any letters. It would identify the *space* between an "R" and an "A" as the letter "M", but not even see the R or A. It would identify multiple letters as a single letter, and prompted me to type in what strange, new letter it didn't understand. When I tapped the "Identify" button, it suggested crazy cursive and fantasy fonts - nothing that looked even close to the font I needed.

I understand that this program does all of the work server-side, and that it may be having issues - but the one time I really needed it, it failed me.

Works perfectly IF you use it correctly

I'm on the iPhone 4. Unless the people on here are having compatibility issues with their version of iOS, they are simply using it wrong. You must crop the letters out precisely, and make sure the letters identified are the right ones & the right case. If it's not identifying the letters correctly, it's a sign you should go back and re-take / re-crop the picture. Worked amazingly for me, and the link to the font page worked perfectly for me each time. Will be using this often. Thank you MyFonts!!!
