WhatWasThere - Put history in its place!
Good start but major gaps
Nice concept that will get better as more content is loaded. But inability to pinch-to-zoom is a major drawback since you can't explore the pictures. Also the app only keys off of current location and doesn't allow you to enter an alternate location. I have a friend going to Cambridge and wanted to view that area. No can do until you're physically there. The app is too limited at this point for major use.
See history live
Cool idea, great way to explore a city and a must for historic preservationists. Still, more often than not it doesn't work out on the street - I get a can't load error. Bummer.
When it does work I love it. Historic image is superimposed over a view from your phone's camera. You can adjust the transparency of the historic image and line it up just right.
Historic images are user submitted, so if there are none for your town or neighborhood, get to work! Submit through their website, it's very easy and is keyed to google maps.
This app wouldn't be worth it if you didn't have a camera and data connection. Need both for the on-the-street experience.
I really like this idea. It does feel a bit rough around the edges still but it looks like a keeper. The more people that use this and contribute images the better it will get. I'll be adding some photos...you should too!
