Description

Download this app to hear Harvard’s take on Classical Music, Jazz, Underground Rock, Hip-Hop, Blues, and much, much more. Listen to WHRB anywhere!

WHRB is Harvard’s entirely student-run radio station, and Boston’s most original programming. Home of the world-famous Orgy® season, WHRB is one of Boston’s oldest radio stations, WHRB brings the creativity, intellect, and risk-taking abilities of Harvard’s student body to bear on nearly all genres of music.

On weekdays, WHRB programming includes The Jazz Spectrum (5:00AM-1:00PM), Classical Music (1:00PM-10:00PM), and Record Hospital (10:00PM-5:00AM).

On weekends, WHRB broadcasts The Darker Side (underground hip-hop, techno, funk, soul, electronica, and reggae), Blues Hangover, Hillbilly at Harvard, and additional Classical Music and Jazz Spectrum programs.

The New York Times has hailed WHRB’s Orgy® season as "idealistic and interesting," adding that "the WHRB Orgies represent a triumph of musical research, imagination, and passion." Orgy® season occurs twice a year, during Harvard’s exam period. The programming during Orgy® season consists of long blocks of themed music. Past Orgy® seasons have included the complete works of Beethoven, collections of labor music, Massachusetts hip-hop artists, and more.

Works ok but needs updating

Apple is warning iPhone users that this app may slow the phone down, and to let the developer know to make it compatible. Can someone with access to the developer do this? Also the scrolling description of the currently playing music is not working. This may be due to the compatibility issue. If you want to know what's playing you have to look at Spinitron.

That said, WHRB has the best classical and jazz programming anywhere. They are not commercial and so aren't a slave to predictable or "easy" or "favorites" music.

Great since update

It was frustrating while the app was not iOS4 compatible, but this app now works perfectly with the new os and is the best radio app I've used. 5 stars since update!

Poor Streaming Quality

When I open the app, more often than not, the app doesn't play. Reinstalling can solve this. Have written the developer on this.

Also, of note, this app hasn't been updated since 2010. Does not seem that anyone is paying attention to the app at WHRB. Listenership would certainly increase with the quality of the app including streaming quality.
