Not a Sim. Stuck in tutorial
I purchased this game because it presents itself as being a simulation that represents aspects of the real world of winemaking. This game is barely that. It just muddles winemaking jargon into a mess of menus and hopes that the player drank enough wine to find it fun. This game is no proper simulation in the way that accuracy to the real world, whimsy, and simplicity and are balanced, such as in Bit By Bit's "Fiz Brewery Management" or Kairosoft's games.
From the start there are confounding distractions, like Merlot being referred to as a "blend," using a "smasher" to increase production, the mysterious generic Vitus vinifera (aren't Cabernet, Merlot, Nebbiolo, etc. all Vitus vinifera already?), and the thoughtless time metrics of case production from raw ingredients being able to happening in a single day.
As gameplay is concerned, I accidentally sold all my wine during the tutorial and am now stuck in Greece. The tutorial restrictions won't let me proceed or backtrack, and it's not clear how to start over. I'm giving up.
Yeah I'm being a snob about the wine inaccuracies, and it's just a game, but for a game that wants to be a simulation, there's far too much dissonance from the real world to make this enjoyable before it even gets rolling.
I absolutely love this game! It took a little time to get the hang of it, mostly because the grapes you need to buy are not in the regions you expect them to be. Who ever heard of Tempranillo in Canada? But the game itself is fun and addicting. I need to shame with my home wine making friends.
I love the game. It's difficult at times but NOW I got hang of it. Three wineries and eight wines later; this is awesome game,
