Witch allows you to switch directly between not only applications (as you can do with Command-Tab), but windows as well. Instead of switching applications first, then windows, use Witch to switch directly to your desired window. If you're coming to the Mac from Windows, you'll find Witch a natural-feeling replacement for Windows' ability to switch directly to windows.

• Witch earned a very-rare perfect five-mouse rating from Macworld: "...Witch is easily one of the most useful utilities on my Macs."

You can even define global hot keys for useful tasks such as releasing or closing all minimized windows, or zooming the frontmost window.

As you can see from the screenshots, Witch has a ton of customization options, none of which are required, but all of which can help make Witch work exactly as you want it to work.

Witch was recently recognized as one of Macworld's Mac Gems of the Year for 2010.

◆◆ NOTE: You do *not* have to leave the Witch application running to use Witch.

The first time you quit Witch, a dialog will appear asking if you'd like Witch to run in the background. Say yes, and you can then switch away without seeing Witch in the Dock. You can access the settings panel at any time by either double-clicking the application, or by pressing comma while the Witch panel is onscreen. ◆◆

Finally! Alt-tab for Mac.

Fantastically useful app. I've been missing alt-tab since switching from Windows to Apple in 2008, and it's a joy to have it back.

Alt-tab is so incredibly useful that many Windows users' left hand will naturally on those two keys at all times. With alt-tab, you never have to stop and think whether the last window you were looking at was an "application" or an "application window", and whether it's "next" or "previous" in the order -- all you have to think is that you want to see the last thing you were looking at! (Also known as "Most Recently Used", or MRU). One keyboard command and voila! You are looking at the last thing you had open, no matter what it is.

Going back and forth between two windows is a surprisingly powerful and common use-case, and Witch has finally brought it to Mac.

Best Multi-Tasking Manager for Mac

I have tried HyperSwitch, Optimal Layout, Apple’s Exposé, Contexts and finally found the one that meets my needs. Witch works great on Mac OS Sierra beta and has the best customization of its apperance. But best of all, it just works!

I picked up Witch originally for one specific functionality - the ability to make a minimized application window become maximized from the dock when Cmd+Tab'd to. With the default finder functionality you have to Cmd+Tab to the application, it comes into focus, then you still have to click the minimized window to bring it into view. The way Witch handles it is so much better.

My only complaint is in regards to the visual style of the app. Compared to the icon sizes they present, I find the text to be uncomfortably large. You can change the size of the text but the icon size changes with it. I'd love the option to adjust the font size independently, keeping the icons a little larger and the text a little smaller. But, it's a minor complaint. This is a solid app that I use every day and I'm a huge fan.
