Mystery Game Buff
I love mystery games. Just wish they weren't so pricey. I got lucky with this one because of a Mothers Day Special for just $0.99. Glad I found because, for all the games I have solved thus far, this one has been my favorite. It was unique from the others because it allowed you to pick extra abilities with your fairy companion. This made for a much more interesting game. Not to mention, if you got stuck, it would not take to long before you are able to figure things out on your own. I really appreciated the creators for having alternate routes if you happen to get stuck on a section. And going this alternate way eventually leads you to solving that section you were previously stuck on. All this without having to seek outside help from a forum or cheats and hints links. I've played other games that had that one way and that one way only. If you did solve it then your screwed so you end up having to go to a cheats and hints link. I hate that.
ALL IN ALL MY MAIN POINT IS DON'T PASS THIS ONE UP.
Poor graphics and bugs
I've already given a full review on my blog (just search for "A Witch's Port"), so I'll simply summarize here:
I do not understand how this game can have such a high rating (4.5 stars as of this writing), as it suffers from many problems. The most glaring of those is the atrocious graphics. The game was clearly ported to iOS without a single thought for cleaning up the graphics or retouching the UI a little for the platform. Most images are very blurry from being scaled-up with a few of the more interactive elements looking very blocky. In addition, the fairy in the game is super-annoying and makes the game far easier than it needs to be, leading me to believe that this game is designed for a much younger audience. Finally, there are some bugs in the game, such as the diary always flashing that there is a "New Entry", even though you've read every page in it.
I will give the game one extra star, bringing it to a total of two, for its diversity of puzzles in the game, rather than just sticking with only a hidden object style of gameplay. That and the fact that it appears to be geared for children to play saves it from a one-star rating.
Some good parts, but a lot of not so good, too
This game does offer a nice variety of puzzles, but none are too terrible difficult which can definitely be nice for player looking for a simple and relaxing game. Unfortunately, the also appears to have so distorting and possible game breaking glitches. For example, at the beginning (I reloaded it several times to make sure it wasn't a one time glitch) the very first screen with the fairy talking appears to have skipped some introductory audio and what I hear doesn't match up with is written. In fact, I believe it skipped a WHOLE bunch of audio because literally all I heard was stuff about the castle being cursed. Also, while others in my household manage to successfully complete the game, I experienced a game breaking glitch after rescuing the gardener that stopped me from progressing. Others have already noted this, but the ending is extremely unsatisfying. I beat the witch and the next screen I saw said 'The End'. I don't know if this was intentional or if part of the cutscene was skipped similar to the beginning, but either way it left a bad taste in my mouth.
