This word search game will boggle your mind. The object is to find as many words* as you can from adjoining letters within the game's time limit. The letters can run vertically, horizontally, diagonally, or "zigzag". The more words, the longer the words, the higher your score will be.

Word ZigZag is the perfect travel game. When playing alone, a player selects the word by tapping the word's 1st letter and gliding his/her finger across the screen over each subsequent letter of the word. Once a word has been selected, the game will determine if it is a valid word*. When playing against friends, players use Word ZigZag as a traditional game board. Players write on paper the valid words that they find on the game board and compare their findings after the time limit.
When a game is done, an alphabetical list of all of the valid words* in the game board will appear so the player can have the chance to see words he/she may have missed.
Players can adjust many of the game settings: dimensions, time limit, the minimum number of letters a word needs before it is consider valid, the scoring system, etc. The dimensions of the game board are NOT restricted to a square: 4x4, 5x5, 6x6. For example, players can adjust the letter grid so it is more rectangular: i.e. 4X6.
If you enjoy playing games like Boggle or Words with Friends, then you will like this game.
*(Please note that this version only finds valid American English words.)

Our girls, ages 5 and 7, were captivated by this game when it first came out. We download lots of apps for them, and most of them don't keep their attention for more than a week. But months later, this is still their "go to" game in the car, at restaurants, waiting for appts, or just quiet time. When they run out of words that they know, they just try combinations until they get something that is a "real word" and then ask us what it means (which we don't always know either!). When you've exhausted your vocabulary, you can see all the possibilities you missed, which is fun in itself. This game is a way better use of "screen time" for kids than a lot of other apps they ask for, and it's a good game to play together. Since our kids are young, there's no competition, but rather a cooperative activity for all of us. I highly recommend it.
good fun, but unnecessary limitations
We really enjoy playing this game. It is easy to do alone or working as a team. It is nice that you can stop and come back whenever to pick up where you left off.
A few things this game could do better, though:
1) Restore the ability to change screen orientation in order to look at the grid from a different perspective. Why this step backwards?
2) Make better and more flexible use of screen real-estate. It would be nice to be able to choose proportions between matrix and the list of words found. Currently, the "found" list is such teeny-weeny type and needs scrolling and the matrix takes up more screen than is necessary.
3) Maybe someday it will be possible to save a game and start a new one so that different users can have their own games going?
Great Rehab Tool!
This game is great...I had a stroke this year and I now have Aphasia, an impairment of language. I have gone through a lot of rehab. My rehab therapists have recommended that I play games like this one. By playing this game, I have relearned words and how to spell them. I have played this with myself and with my kids. We all think it's great!
