Simple, Intelligent Removal of "Hard" Carriage Returns. WordWrapper replaces the returns with a space so your word processor can easily reformat your text. It'll work on any text file, or you can word-wrap the clipboard while you are inside your favorite word processing program. WordWrapper recognizes paragraphs and short lines and leaves the carriage returns where you want them, removing only those that get in the way of word wrapping.

Try it and you probably won't buy it.

Go to the developer's web site and download the trial first. I think you'll be as unimpressed as I was.

This app comes with a default to not unwrap lines less than 50 characters, so in my first attempts to clean up a magazine article it did absolutely nothing.

Once I figured that out, it did work, but you can do the same thing - which I only learned later - using Bean. Just show invisibles, copy paragraph break symbol (hint: move your cursor around a little to select it) and replace with a space. The advantage of Bean is you can do the replacements one at a time and so preserve breaks you want. When I used Wordwrapper to unwrap a page from a PDF file that displayed several paragraphs, it turned it into one solid block of text. No help.

When running, it doesn't display as a running app, so you have to close windows (I have a 11" MacBook Air) to even find it. If you close the little Wordwrapper panel, you can't open it again. I would have already trashed it from my computer, but once open, apparently it never closes (doesn't show in force quit either), so I'll have to restart to do that.

I think it's pretty worthless. And it's completion message, 'That about wraps it up!' get annoying after about three appearances.

Three stars because it is such a simple app -- but it is good at the one thing it does: remove carriage returns in text to allow wrapping.

If you work a lot in research, writing, editing, publishing or any other area where you work with lots of text in different formats, you know what it is like to have to deal with word wrapping issues. For $.99, this little app solves a major headache! Now just copy the text, click the wordwrapper command to wrap what's in the clipboard, and the paste as you like. Especially helpful if taking text from a PDF.

One thing the app doesn't do is remove formatting. If this were a feature, the app would rate four stars.

Absolutely fantastic!

I did a bunch of research online and couldn't quite find exactly what I wanted which was this:

1. an automated application that would take large blocks of text from a word doc, and email, etc, to standardize the appearance of that text

2. an application that would easily limit the number of characters per-line to 65 or less (seeing as that's what's supported by most email, online articles, etc)

This does each, and it does it with ease.
