Access Git repositories on the go. Clone, edit, commit and push while allowing other apps access to repositories.

Git is a important part of our work-life and iOS can take part in this. The ability to commit even when offline has added utility on a device that moves in and out of network coverage. Cloning repositories gets you a local copy on your iOS device with commits for all branches. You can browse the content from within the app and make changes. Other applications supporting the Files app, WebDAV or x-callback-url has access to these files. Changes made can be committed and the commits can in turn be pushed back to the remote.

The idea of doing significant programming on iOS might seem far fetched when you are used to a large screen, a physical keyboard and a full IDE. But just as it turned out that not every email is serious prose, then not everything that goes on in Git is significant programming. Sometimes you just want to update a TODO file or make adjustments to your Jekyll site. Sometimes you just need to add a file the designer sent after hours.

If you ever make reminders about small things to do with the code-base, then you should give Working Copy a try. You will spend less time moving stuff around and you will get much better commit messages when you write them for fixes that are still fresh in your mind. You won't be leaving your computer behind any time soon, but sometimes it is faster to just fix things with the device in your hand.

When you do need to perform real work on iOS, Working Copy is a powerful tool. Editor has syntax highlighting for more than 50 programming languages and a built-in color picker. Preview images, Markdown and HTML files with a Javascript console pointing to errors in your code. Create new branches and merge or rebase them back, with a brilliant merge-tool for handling conflicts.

Even if you never edit a line of code on iOS, Working Copy is a great companion for reviewing and discussing code. Repositories are cross indexed and with powerful fuzzy search you can quickly jump from a symbol to the declaration or reverse from the declaration to all usages. A graph of your commits lets you zoom out for a overview of of the commit tree or zoom in for specifics about each commit, with speed and beauty you won’t find in desktop Git applications. Review the changes your files have gone through with a diff viewer that is great for text and images. There is even hex-dump mode for that obscure occasion.

Working Copy Enterprise has the same features as Working Copy and includes the in-app purchase for pushing commits back to remote servers. This makes it easier for IT departments to deploy the application to employee devices. If you are purchasing Working Copy for yourself, there is no advantage or disadvantage in picking the Enterprise version. Note that repositories in one app will not show up in the other.

What's New

Version 3.3.0

This update adds new features with the potential to change the work you can do on iOS by cooperating with remote servers through secure shell.

SSH Upload lets you keep a directory on a remote server in sync with a local directory in Working Copy. This is especially useful for web-sites, Jekyll blogs and Node.js services that refresh as files change. SSH Upload starts by uploading all needed files to the server and will keep monitoring your local directory for changes that are then uploaded as you edit. You enable this from the share sheet of a repository or directory and watch a video of how it works in the Users' Guide:

SSH Command lets you execute commands on a remote server, using your local files in Working Copy as input and bringing back results to iOS. This lets you run commands such as latex, make or xcodebuild and have access to command output and all files changed right inside Working Copy. Enable this from the share sheet of a directory or file. The app remembers which filetypes and directories have been used and will give you quick access with a left sliding action on the entry in your directory listing. Read more in the Users' Guide:

Both features are available to users of a recent pro unlock. If you unlocked the push feature later than March 1st, 2017 you have permanent access, but if your unlock is more than a year old, you will need to purchase again at a reduced upgrade price. Just as you could try out the push feature for 10 days before unlocking, you can try out these new features for 10 days before upgrading.

Upgrade the app by switching to Working Copy Enterprise 2018. It is important that you purchase the app bundle containing your existing app and the 2018 one, since the total price of the bundle will reflect that you already paid for this app. There is a link to the app bundle inside the unlock screen in settings.

Both apps will be updated with new features and other improvements, but the date at which you purchased each app is used to determine the pro features available.

Future pro features in Working Copy will work this way, which has a number of advantages:
• You never lose features you paid for
• App stays updated with non-pro features and other improvements for everyone
• You decide when to upgrade to new pro features
• At purchase you get the next 12 months of pro features as upgrade protection

You can access a timeline of features from the unlock settings screen and disable features you are not interested in.

There are a number of improvements not tied to the pro unlock as well.

Preview Sketch files when looking at files and use image-diff when comparing changes to Sketch files.

Added preview mode for org-mode files and syntax highlighting for org-mode and Docker files.

Improvements to fuzzy search of filenames and symbol declarations. Queries take abbreviations into consideration such that "wc." prefers
WorkingCopy.swift over ViewController.swift

Remember that section titles in Markdown are indexed as symbols and can be fuzzy searched and that you specify line number inside a query with something like “wc. 36” you jump directly to this point in a file.

Searching and indexing has been made faster and more reliable in large repositories.

The Users' Guide available from app settings can play videos showing how to use the app. To avoid making the app much larger, these videos are only available when online. Video is available on screenshots with a play button.

Lots of smaller improvements and fixes.

Git this and git on the road!

I use my iPad as a portable workstation with a lousy keyboard, which is indispensable for SSHing into servers and fixing stuff while on the road.

Working Copy Enterprise is a classy piece of software that I use often to pull a git repo, add or fix something smallish, and push it back. (In fact, during Hurricane Irma, I used it to update my git-based blog regularly so friends and family worldwide could see we were ok).

It's fast, it's solid, and the developer has been the nicest person, and amazingly responsive to the few issues I've raised for some Beta versions.

I gave it 4 stars because, well, there's no 4.5 stars button, and there are some things I'd like, for example, an interactive rebase capability, pull --rebase, squash merge, and stash. Maybe there is a way to do all these, but then the 0.5 lost stars would pertain to UX improvements.

Botttom line: it's great, I would buy it again, and it's worth every cent.

Most needed app

I'm a developer in my university
Many people are using github or other git clients system that store their projects or works init.
By this app my working process is going to be faster that before and now I have a job and i think this app help me to get the job faster and easier.
Thanks for this great cool hot application iOS that you developers create it.
Great job and well done
I'm happy with purchasing enterprise version of this app.
God smile on you and all of us.

This version is better that
N previous one
Looks great and icon change its better
And completely compatible with files iOS 11
Im in iOS 11.1 beta no bug found yet

Great But I Have A Request

It does what is says it does. It does it really well and efficiently. I would give it 5 stars if there were more coding themes to choose from instead of just the white one and the darker one. I have the enterprise version, and with that, I am expecting more themes such as a monokai and such. Great app though!

Developer Response

I have this on my todo-list but there are some core Git features that I would really like to implement first. Hopefully you will not have to wait too long.
