Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
Groundbreaking educational 3D World Atlas with instantaneous access to all of world history.
The pinchable, zoomable timeline gives you instantaneous access to anywhere in history. Just slide it to where you want to go and the maps instantly change.
We also have great articles, images, and events that appear right on the globe.
This is how a Historical Atlas is supposed to work on an iPad.
What's New in Version 1.6
We now have a great tutorial that launches with product installation, and can be turned off in the new preferences panel.
We also have a great new retina clean timeline, browsable images for every empire, preferences, and bookmarks for the wiki view.
We've also cached the summary articles for every empire in the app, along with the top level of maps, so that users can do even more when not connected to the internet.
Finally we've added a feedback button in the preferences, so users can chime in and help guide our product to the future.
Pretty but useless
The globe and timeline functions of this app are very pretty and might be useful for helping students visualize historical changes on a geographic scale. Beyond that there is little to recommend this app. The facts are mere trivia and major events are ignored. The bread riots in France pop up, but no mention is made of the French Revolution. The size of Germany varies significantly between 1932 and 1944 with no explanation. When the timeline is set to 1860, the only pop-up that appears tells us Barack Obama was elected president in 2008. There was a presidential election in 1860, some guy named Lincoln was elected. This election was of more profound historical significance than the opening of the first chocolate factory in Germany. Guess which one made the cut? Without significant updates to the database, including corrections to errors, it is not worth the money!
Wow. Tremendous undertaking, done well
Beautiful app, a tremendous effort, can't wait for more. Highly recommended--as a favorite go to app, I would buy again.
++Update: I still hope to see more such applications, such as detailed history around such objects in history as Stonehenge.
I know that it's a big undertaking, but I sure would enjoy buying specialty versions of this type of application. The current one is a great overview. More specialized areas of history would be a fascinating way to zero in on details without creating a massive size app.
One of the best apps ever
I own thousands of apps and this is the first review I have ever written. I am teaching a Big History course, and this app is giving me the most useful materials for my slides -- graphically engaging and wonderful in breadth and scope. The other reviewer who complained of few facts must not have found the links to the thorough wiki articles. The complaint about it being Euro-centered is unfounded. I only wish it was available for my Mac computer.
