I had a trip to NYC with my parents, with one of them in a wheelchair. We stayed in Manhattan the entire time. This app was a life saver. We used it four times and every trip was great. It works better scheduling ahead of time instead of pick up now. I received a call on my phone when the cab was outside. All cabs had a rear ramp right into them and drivers were great. Three or four people plus someone in a wheelchair can fit into the cabs. Highly recommend.
At least for now, it does not work in Brooklyn
The description states it works "throughout New York City." It does not work in Brooklyn (which has been part of NYC, in fact, if not always in spirit, for over a century). I recognize that most yellow cabs focus in Manhattan, but they are required to service the other boroughs. Perhaps no cabs are nearby at a given time, but that does not excuse the app for not even looking.
This may not be the app's problem. The problem may reside with the NYC TLC, but whatever, right now the app reports "No Taxi Service near Brooklyn, NY". We'll see if this changes.
The drivers are mostly great; dispatch, however, is very inconsistent. We've had great experiences (Jennifer ROCKS, as do a few guys), and we've had really REALLY bad experiences. Twice in the past couple of weeks we waited for over an hour, with no notification of delay. Several times we got re-dispatched to drivers twice as far away. We're at this point reserving an hour ahead for literally a 10-minute trip, and have been late 6 out of the last 10 times.
