Description

Writing. Automated Dropbox/iCloud Syncing. Markdown. Fastest Sharing. Beautiful Design. Love.

NOTE: iCloud sync between iOS and Mac version of Write is currently broken. I have no definite date on a fix for this. Dropbox sync should be working just fine.

Nightmarish Experience and Waste of Money

I was so excited finding this because I have been searching everywhere for a decent writing app that syncs with dropbox. I went through the main website to buy it for iPad and end up buying one for iPhone because apparently that is what it links to and it didn't exactly broadcast that it was specifically for the phone. It said it supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. So, I had to buy a different one (that neither the website nor the in app link directed me to) for iPad.

That was the first issue. The second issue was that on both platforms it is a total and complete crashfest trying to get it started. Until you can get it linked it stays in the tour and while it was in the tour it crashed every 10~15 seconds. Which made it fun trying to link it to dropbox with it being all crash-y.

Then when I finally got in there and got it set up, it said my dropbox folders were empty... which they are not. So, after all this BS I find out the hard way that the app doesn't support much of anything so far as file types go.

If I wanted a text editor that I'd have to reformat all my files for, I would have just kept Word since it's FREE.

But, really, who doesn't just LOVE wasting money?

I tried to keep using it, since I had already spent the money, but now it is just causing more problems than it could ever be worth. Suddenly it won't sync with dropbox anymore, citing that it needs an internet connection... meanwhile I've checked and my connection is fine. Plus it still can download from dropbox, it just can't sync changes apparently.

So I copied my work and pasted it into a new file to be saved locally just to make sure I didn't lose my work. Only, I come back later to find that it lost my saved file. Not sure HOW since it said it was saved and I hadn't touched it afterwards.

So, basically, if you want to keep what you work on, don't buy this piece of trash app. Doing so will only cause you pain down the road.

Needs an update/broken

Bought this app specifically because it can save markdown directly into Evernote. However, it does not do so. Even after linking my Evernote account, the Write insists that I have no internet connection and refuses to push to Evernote, although it will happily save to Google Drive and send emails.

I’m sure the problem is just that it hasn’t been updated in 17 months, which I didn’t notice before I bought.Incompatibilities are bound to show up as iOS releases new versions and the app isn’t updated. I recommend staying away from this, since it looks like it is no longer under development.

Overall it is a powerful editor although it feels really “busy”; like there are too many options spread around in too many places and it takes more taps than it should to accomplish actions.

Two examples: to get to settings, you have to tap the menu symbol in the upper left corner. Not once, but twice. The first time opens your note list, the second time opens a menu (new file, sync, etc).

Similarly, if you want to send a file someplace with the share sheet, that’s not accessible right away. From the editing window, you have to tap a checkmark in the upper right, which changes the bottom toolbar from a formatting bar to an options toolbar with things like preview, mark as favorite, and the share sheet button on it. Then you tap the share button to get yet another menu of all the places you can share too (which is quite long and completely uneditable).

Also, why is there a formatting bar in a markdown writer?? The whole point of markdown is that I shouldn’t have to take my hands off the keyboard,

No support for this app

You wouldn't know this by looking at the App Store, but the developer who wrote this app is no longer supporting it. When bugs show up - like a flaky toolbar, for example - they are not going to get fixed. You're on your own. Buyer beware.
