A Bridge Between the Old and New X Universe
X³: Albion Prelude plays in a time between the old and the new X Universe. It shows a universe in flux, and prepares players for things to come. The old X Universe is passing; a new X Universe is about to be created.
The X universe is undergoing a period of massive change. What started as a conflict of interest between the Earth and the races of the X Universe has now escalated into a full scale war. Play a part in a war scenario bigger than anything the X Universe has ever seen before!
Corporations Compete for Control of the Future
With the war as a backdrop, corporations are vying for power and are driving the X Universe in a new direction. A technological breakthrough will soon allow massive accelerators, forming highways in space and allowing the economy to expand on an unprecedented scale. xbox conttroller will not work
it says there is support for gamepads and microsoft 360 controller, it does not recoginize mine…i know the controller is fine cause works absolutely perfect with other titles such as RAGE…this is terrible.
This is a great game if you are patient, love depth and complexity. This is not a jump in a fighter seat and win in a couple of days game- AT ALL. This is a long-term game that combines some RPG, FPS and builder/strategy elements. Warning- there is a steep learning curve. Not for the faint of heart! But if you're tired of the same old repetative games, try this one on for size! This is the biggest, non-linear sandbox game that allows you to control your outcome. Many tasks can be automated, or you can take control yourself. You can build your own factories to build and supply your space fleet, or you can sell what you build or do a combo of the two. Also, you can be a trader, be a fighter, explore or any combo. You really do control what you want to do. There is a storyline that you can jump in and out of at will, meaning you don't have to follow it all. I wish there was a "research" element to it, in order to develop new items and skills, but it works without that. Also, there isn't multiplayer, so it's a solo game only. There is a bonus pack, but it was developed for the PC. It can be installed on the Mac, but you have to dig in the forums and it is a little complex. It would be nice if there was a straight forward port of it for the Mac. I've installed it and it is totally worth the effort, but better support by the makers would be nice. Bottom line- great game, great depth, but it isn't a casual game.
cool but having hard time learning
I'm a complete newbie to the X3 games - this is my first. I finally made it through the basic flight tutorial and I've figured out how to get around a bit on my own but I'm having a tough time getting past the basics. There's no manual to follow, the key commands are buried in the U.I. menu so... I'm not quite sure what I'm doing. I like this general type of game but I just have little experience with it. I was expecting to get thrown into a storyline or plot or something... that might have been a mistaken assumption (?). Other than that, I'm running it on a 2008 MBP running 10.6.8 but with the graphic settings dropped down a bit to make it a bit smoother.
Edit - There is a manual! - When you launch the game a window pops up that lets you adjust graphics settings, etc. - there's a "manual" button which brings up a PDF. Looking forward to digging into this... Wish there was a way it could be made a bit more obvious.
