In flight, Xavion constantly imagines engine-failed glides to every runway in gliding range, and then shows you the safest-possible route as Highway-In-The-Sky to take in the event of engine failure. This, finally, gives you guidance after an engine failure that is based on energy-management all the way down, where the computer does the glide-planning for you… you just fly through the hoops to the runway.

As well, Xavion tracks other airplanes via ADS-B, and memorizes their location to track their WAKE TURBULENCE, moving the wake turbulence down and with the wind over time, and showing the wake turbulence as little spiraling tornados. Finally, an App that tracks and shows you the wake turbulence of other airplanes.

As well, Xavion gets ADS-B weather (if you have a Sagetech or iLevil receiver) and shows it on a moving map, and provides weather for all airports that report it. As well, Xavion gets METARS and winds aloft from the internet if you have a WIFI or cell signal before or during flight!

Also, Xavion checks your weight and balance, medical and BFR currency, and even estimates your takeoff distance and compares that to the length of the runway that you are about to take off on to warn you if the available length from your current location on the runway is too little for a safe take-off.

Also, Xavion estimates time and fuel burn at all different altitudes to any destination you want to go to, and shows you 3-D “highway in the sky” hoops to get there.

Xavion is free to download, and requires In-App purchase of current airport data ($9.99/month, or $99.00/year). As well, you may OPTIONALLY by a Seattle Avionics Chart Data subscription for $149.00/year, or access your EXISTING Seattle Avionics Chart Data subscription freely.

This is the most user-friendly, powerful App that I can imagine, and I love flying with it.

(We never release customer info, and the terms of use are listed at the launch of the App. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.)

New landing algorithm: Altitude-permitting, Xavion now places you abeam the numbers, where visually-guided engine-out practice is normally done from!

The placement is great for power-off approaches, since this is the point from which we typically practice our power-off approaches, so this new guidance brings us right into the situtation we practiced.

If it is night or IFR you can continue to follow the Xavion hoops all the way to the runway same as always,
but if it is day VFR and you see the runway, you can at this point abeam the numbers abandon your iPad and fly a standard, well-practiced power-off turn to base and then final and landing,
simply rehearsing your usual training from that well-known spot abeam the numbers.
In other words, the approach technique in this Xavion update gives you the night/IFR guidance all the way to touchdown that you might need,
but sets you up for a standard power-off traffic pattern if possible (altitude-permitting) to let your attention go off the iPad and out the window
to a standard power-off approach at the time of your choosing.
Also, it is really nice to be brought right to that point abeam the numbers on a 45-degree intercept... it gives a great sight-picture for setting up your power-off approach and landing.

NOW, if you do NOT have enough altitude for this standard approach, then a direct path to base and then final is indeed executed by Xavion,
so no precious altitude is spent on standard traffic pattern entries in that scenario. Sometimes you just have to come straight in,
and Xavion will build that approach if needed (if your altitude does not allow for the full 45-degree entry to a point abeam the numbers).

The approach interface in the nav menu is a tiny bit different: we now get confirmation (or rejection due to terrain or obstacle intersection) of each course we try to enter as a text message in the NAV page.
As well, in the main screen, we now see a message as a small alert up top, notifying us of any specific concerns that Xavion has about the currently-displayed approach, such as requiring power to make it (you are too low) a tight turn or short final approach being needed, or there being limited facilities at the airport, for example.
So, we now have a bit more diagnostics to let you see what Xavion is thinking as it builds the various approaches for you, either manually in the NAV page or automatically for engine-out guidance.

Life-saving tool


Excellent situation awareness, terrain avoidance and emergency landing guidance. Xavion works on an iPhone as well as it does on an iPad. I mount it next to my undersized cockpit console, and have complete panel back up in case of electrical failure. I use earbuds underneath my headset for audible terrain avoidance alerts. When I get ADS-B, I will also enjoy traffic alerts. Xavion works seamlessly with X-Plane for flight planning and proficiency simulation.
With Seattle Avionics subscriptions (additional) do you have moving me up display on VFR Sectional, IFR Enroute charts and Approach Plates.
All I would ask in addition to these features is a one touch transition between approach plates and Highway-in-the-sky guidance to the threshold.

I never fly without this app running and mounted on my panel - this is huge safety insurance. Try it - you AND your passengers will feel a new level of relaxation!
NOTE: I had a self-inflicted mess up in my craft configuration entries and emailed Austin for help. He spent considerable time and several back and forth emails to find and explain my problem! That is a HUGE benefit in a program as detailed and important as this one can be if you'll let it! Wonderful support!

I have flown with this app for several years. It gives you the piece of mind you need to always know your path to the best suitable airport. Amazingly put together. Runs great when populated with your aircrafts individual data points. Developer is always providing great updates and always improving the app.
