What people are saying

"Remember all the praise Yahoo got for its Weather app? The new Finance app deserves the same recognition. It has received a complete visual makeover worthy of iOS 7 with beautiful new stock charts and portfolio lists." - Michael Grothaus, TUAW

Used to be less buggy

I use YF to see quotes. There are a number of features(bugs) that are really annoying: (1) the app only pulls quotes for stocks that are currently visible in the window. If you scroll down the list the stock prices are not up to date and you have to wait up to 10 seconds before they get updated. I am guessing they did this to reduce load on their servers. It used to be that all the stocks were kept up to date whether or not they were currently visible. (2) when you click on a stock the graph may look broken with missing data up to the present. If you pull down to refresh it doesn’t — you have to exit the stock and go back in order to see the updated graph. This is also a recent bug. (3) sometimes the app just gets stuck and needs to be killed and restarted before it starts updating the quote data. (4) the new stories for each stock are out of date compared to the ones from the web site sometimes by over a week. Really? How come the desktop web site has more recent news than the mobile app? (5) this may have been fixed recently but the quotes would sometimes suddenly jump several minutes backwards in time.

Come on, Yahoo, this app has gotten progressively worse over time.

You need me on your app testing team

For some reason every single time Yahoo Finance cannot maintain an application. I do the most basic commands (1 day chart, monthly chart) and somehow come out backwards during market open, come on. Now, since the upgrade to iOS 9, I can only count two seconds whenever I open the app and it crashes. Seriously? No one on the design team didn't notice?
It'd be one thing if this was a bad app with even worse performance but the app is nice and stylish, now it just needs to function. PLEASE FIX

This app has just a few core functions it is expected to perform. One of them is to display stock ticker information for symbols selected by the user.

The app hasn't been able to reliably perform this basic function for a long time. Ticker information doesn't update or only updates intermittently, and the ticker information shown on the right and the detailed company information shown when tapping on a symbol usually is out of sync.

Apple doesn't think iPad users need stock information, so sadly we need to rely on third-party tools like Yahoo Finance. Unfortunately it is hopelessly unreliable.
