Great functionality, reviews I can trust
I've used Yelp since 2006. I keep coming back because it's trustworthy and reliable. Like so many others I've heard the rumors about Yelp and it's review recommendations. Do you really think a company could really bully businesses that bad without getting caught in 2016? No. But the reviews I see are reviews I believe. I look at the non recommended reviews. 9/10 times it seems like it's the person's first review... And probably came from the owner or an employee. I want to know an honest rating- and that doesn't come from the owner, employees, or their friends that they've asked to review their business. It comes from me, my neighbors, the strangers out there looking for the best restaurant, Doctor, electrician. If I wanted biased reviews I'd go to Google, TripAdvisor or CitySearch. I want the truth- so I use Yelp.
Will Remove 5 star reviews if you do not buy their packages
I highly recommended against downloading Yelp. This app places money before accuracy. When our restaurant page first launched on Yelp, there were a handful of 5 star reviews that showed up on our recommended reviews page. Shortly after, we were contacted by a Yelp representative that wanted to sell us an advertising package for $1,000 a month. After we declined the offer, they started taking many of our 5 star reviews off our recommended reviews page and moved them to the reviews that are not recommended tab. We now have a total of 17 5 star reviews that are hidden from our main page, but if a two or three star review is written regardless of how long the user has been on Yelp, it will always show up on our main page. This app is nothing but a business only looking out for itself. The sad part is that many people still believe that this app exhibits accuracy in its filtered reviews.
I like Yelp in general, and have almost always found the general consensus of reviews pretty darn accurate. The app itself works seamlessly, and is very easy to navigate.
My only real complaint is that Yelp does not offer the option to notate a business as wheelchair-accessible or not, but this applies to the whole system, not just the app.
You ask about parking of cars and bicycles; how about asking if 100% of the population can physically get in there unassisted or not?
Our population is aging rapidly, and there are still many inaccessible locations in our world. Please help people figure this out along with all of the rest of any information one would want in order to decide to try a business or not that you already provide without having to actually make phone calls to inquire.
I also once had one very well-deserved negative review deleted for reasons I am still not privy to, which annoyed me greatly, and I've seen examples of business owners somehow managing to get negatives that the public deserves to know about removed, but again, that is whole the Yelp system, and nothing to do with the actual app.
