Why YemuZip (short version):
● Make PC-friendly zip without "__MACOSX" etc
● Zip directly to email (super convenient!)
● Drag-and-drop interface
YemuZip is an easy-to-use app for making zip files. Just drag, drop, name your zip file and you're done.
Mac OS X's built-in compress function makes zip files that contains Mac specific information that, when extracted on a PC, looks like garbage. YemuZip lets you choose between a PC-friendly format and a Mac format that preserve all the Mac-specific metadata.
YemuZip remembers your recently chosen destination folders. This allows you to quickly output the zip file to your Dropbox, for example. YemuZip can also place the resulting zip file directly in an email with no temporary file to deal with.
IMPORTANT NOTE: How much compression you get is data dependent. This is true for any zip app. With today's cheap storage and broadband connectivity, zip is more for archiving multiple files/folders into one file than for compression.

Fixes issues embedded in default Mac zips
Great program. Very easy to use. Only downside is that you have to drag all files into it in one pass. You can't drag some in, then drag more in from another source to add them and then click "go" or whatever. I haven't found this to be a problem with the way I use it, but it could be. YemuZip allows you to choose from 3 different compression/speed levels, which is cool. Would highly recommend!
Perfect for PC-friendly zip creation
I tried some other apps. Should have just dropped the $4.99 to start with. Great little tool. The zip files are free of the hidden noise that trips up PC users. It would be great if you could build up an archive from several different locations, but it’s not terrible to build up a folder of what you are including in the zip, then drag and drop. The resulting zip is clean and about the same size that the native MacOS compression creates (at least as far as my particular archive is concerned).
Solves a common cross-platform problem
This simple zipping app solves two common problems when making zip files on a mac to be shared with windows users. First, it removes the confusing __MACOSX folder & files, and second it solves an issue on Windows 7 and earlier where zip files made with Finder would appear as “encrypted” and show a confusing warning message. It’s a huge help, thanks!
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
