YoNav! - A simple GPS app that just works!

YoNav! leverages the latest features of the Apple Watch Series 2 & 3 to put a cutting-edge waterproof standalone GPS on your wrist. There is no need to be tethered to your iPhone anymore. YoNav! on the Apple Watch Series 2 & 3 is 100% stand alone for tracking and telemetry. What sets YoNav! apart is the efficiency of data. There is no clutter, no complicated menus, just a GPS app that works.

YoNav! is perfect for:
--Kiteboarding, surfing, or other water sports

Using the latest features of the Apple Watch Series 2 & 3, YoNav! can:
--Track and map your activity
--Display important telemetry during your activity
--Export your tracks to GPX format for use in most major navigation software
--Keep track of your sailing starts with a built-in timer that offers haptic feedback during the countdown.
--Track your calories burned during your activity

Track and map your activity
YoNav! will track and map your activity (on iPhone) using color coded tracks to show speed variations. Tracking can be turned on and off from the watch. Tracks can be uploaded to the iPhone once you are back in range. All tracks can be exported off the iPhone in GPX format for use in most major navigation software apps.

Display Important Telemetry
All the information you expect from a handheld GPS is at your fingertips. YoNav! can display 1 to 4 separate data fields. Available data fields are speed, course, bearing to waypoint, velocity made good, distance off course, distance to waypoint, and many others. All telemetry can be displayed in the unit system of your choice.

Built in Sailing Countdown Timer
Are you a sailor? Do you want to nail the perfect start? Use the built-in timer to countdown from the duration you choose. Haptic (vibration and sound) feedback occurs at intervals during the countdown. The tracking automatically begins as soon as the timer reaches zero. You can ensure your sailboat is moving at full speed at every start.

Leave all the complicated electronics at home next time you are on water, in the mountains, or just on the go. YoNav! can replace hand held GPS units with a simple yet very effective app.

While the paired iPhone is in range, the GPS of the iPhone is used for tracking. When the paired iPhone is not in range the GPS of the Apple Watch Series 2 & 3 is used. Please note that continued use of the GPS running in the background of either device can dramatically decrease battery life.

Privacy Policy Summary: YoNav! collects calorie workout data while in operation on the Apple Watch and sends the workout data to Apple's Health app. It also collects and stores location information. Learn more about the YoNav! privacy policy at:

Finally, a smart GPS app that is convenient

I race catamarans and many times I go out in extreme conditions to see how fast I can go. I have tried many different speed recording systems. I have used a Velocitek version SC-1 for a speed readout and track top speeds. The problem there is the water spray would change the buttons for the display. The button lock never worked. I was in process of building a shield, when I was forced to do an update that fried the unit. Lately, I have been using RaceQs for speed tracking. The downfall is I would have to pull the phone out to check what we’re doing (phone lives in lifejacket). This becomes a challenge at 20 knots. Using YoNav on the Apple Watch makes speed and navigation a dream. I have also used iNavX for navigation. iNavX uses USCG charts which is helpful for marine navigation. It is a whole different point of use than YoNav. The displays on YoNav are much better than anything I have seen.

I have used the app in the car to test it. As with any GPS, it must “see the sky” to work. I was able to play with the app on the water this weekend and it worked great. You don’t have to have the app running on the phone for the watch to work. I really look forward to doing some races with this app. I really like that I can change the number of screens and which data is delivered on the watch. Pure brilliance!!! I’m very impressed.

Not Working

Since downloading this app, it has never fired up. No location LAT/LONG and no maps. I have authorized the app in settings to use location services. What am I missing?

Developer Response ,

Please make sure you have a clear view of the sky and location services is turned on. Open the app and press the "GO" button to select your type of tracking. Once a tracking mode is selected it will take a moment or two for the GPS to sync up, but you should see data begin to stream.

KISS...Keep It Simple Shannon! App is great.. Do what you do and see where ya did it. Simple and relevant information is displayed in a manor that those who are active need...NUMBERS! If you are into navigation and/or performance tracking, numbers are the key, and not frilly little maps. Though there is a map available in the playback which is cool too.
