Use this app if you're looking to sync your phone with your YNAB 4 budget. If you're a YNAB 4 user, we'll still be supporting YNAB 4 (and this companion app) all through 2016.
If you're looking for the companion app that syncs with our new web application, you'll want to download our latest app called, simply, "YNAB".
What's New in Version 3.3.2
- Fixed a UI refresh issue
This can't be good!
I don't write reviews but considering my relationship with YNAB over the past two years, I felt compelled to write this in the hopes that Jesse and the creators of this app change their course before it's too late.
When I saw the update prompt in the AppStore and read their message, I knew trouble was looming at the horizon and although I understand that most players in this kind of industry are looking to sustain their income with the subscription model, I am very disappointed and heart-broken by this. The philosophy behind this app consisted in rooting for the underdog and promoting frugality. How can one be frugal with this new model? It's just inconceivable.l for me at least and I don't plan on transitioning. Don't fix it if it ain't broken!
I will use YNAB 4 until they stop supporting it and it crashes or something. I also didn't update the desktop app for fear that they might render it completely useless, considering the direction they are heading in. I can't trust this company anymore and will be looking for alternatives like everyone else. Good luck with this new model and I honestly wish you guys the best of luck!
And seriously, the banner is a slap in the face of your loyal community. A huge middle finger in fact. Truly a shame! Also the update completely destroyed the apps functionality. It doesn't sync!
You could easily have fixed the ugly icon banner when you were fixing the UI refresh issue. Do you not read these reviews at all? Or are you deliberately trying to get the rating for this version down to one so that the new version will look better in comparison?
I am still rating this app five stars, because it's a great app and I use it all the time.
I am, of course, disappointed that you have decided to abandon it as I'm certainly not going to store my personal financial data on your potentially insecure and unreliable servers when network security and availability is not your area of expertise.
Even Dropbox has occasional problems. But at least their whole business model is based on their reliability and security so I know they take it seriously.
You claim that you take it seriously, but I very much doubt that you have the necessary and sufficient network and security experts on staff since they are in extremely short supply.
I left a negative review for the new version of YNAB after installing it because most of the functionality had been broken, it was too much of a change from the old version for me to use. I fell back on using the old desktop app and it still works great. I just now opened up the mobile app for the first time in a long time to input some transactions only to find the sync is broken. Surprise surprise. It seems as if they plan to completely abandon the old users and force everyone to the new subscription model. I wouldn't mind paying honestly but the web app is far less powerful than the desktop app it's unusable. What a shame, I used to be evangelical about this app...
