Why do we need a journal?
Our days are jam packed, and we’re constantly running from one place to another. Do we actually remember what we snacked on earlier today? Do we remember how many handfuls we actually ate of those nuts? Do we ever pause to think about why we are eating? Was it hunger or emotions?
YouAte helps us realize what and why we actually ate, how we feel during the day and how active we truly are. It helps us spot habits and patterns so we can embrace the nourishing ones and replace the others.

How does it work?
YouAte helps you quickly capture your meal before you eat. With a few simple taps you can keep notes about your meal and learn about your hunger cues. You’ll soon realize how food affects your day-to-day activities and performance in and out of the office. YouAte helps track the time of your meal and the time between meals. If you are starving by lunchtime, you can see what you had earlier. Maybe you didn’t eat the right food to fuel you throughout the morning. YouAte helps you connect the dots to understand your mood and energy!

YouAte also helps you capture what you drink. Tracking water, coffee, alcohol, juice or soda consumptions has never been this easy. It puts everything on a visual timeline with your meals so you can better understand your habits. [Premium]

YouAte is your personal health journal. On it’s own it enhances your mindfulness and self-awareness. If you choose, it can be shared with your coach, nutritionist, or close friends for additional motivation.


Most of YouAte’s core features are free to use and will stay free. We do offer a premium membership that will unlock features such as Liquid and Activity tracking, the ability to invite friends, to share your profile via the web and to reuse your favorite photos when saving a meal. You can sign up for monthly, quarterly and yearly auto-renewing plans.

Processing of a subscription is handled by Apple. Your credit card will be charged through your iTunes account when you confirm your purchase. Subscription renews automatically at the same price, unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the subscription term. You can manage subscriptions in Account Settings in iTunes after purchase. Refunds will not be provided for any unused portion of the subscription term.

More details about some recent changes:

- New navigation -
We are introducing a new way to navigate the app to give us more room for future updates. All entry options are now under the More button to the right of the camera icon. On the left there is a secondary action button that you can customize to give you easy access to your favorite entry option.

- Note entry -
You can now save your thoughts and feelings with the new “Note” type entry. This is the first of several new entry types we will be introducing in the upcoming weeks. (Requires a premium membership.)

- Siri Shortcuts and Notifications grouping (iOS 12)-
Go to Settings > Siri & Search > All Shortcuts to create your own custom YouAte shortcuts. (Add meal, water or activity. More coming soon. If you have any suggestions, let us know.)

- Added Yoga as a new activity type -
We heard from many of you that Yoga goes well with a mindful food diary, so we added Yoga as one of the activity choices. We also renamed “Exercise” >> “Activity” because we think it better represents the wide range of physical movements you can do to become a healthier you. What other activities would you like to see/track in here? Gardening? Hiking?

- Custom Liquid volumes -
You can now add custom volumes. Just scroll to the bottom of the volume selector. Easily reuse them using the Quick Add function.

- 24-hour clock and support for Milliliters (ml) -
The app now matches your phone’s settings. So if you are using 24-hour time format and the metric system, the app will display things properly.

- Apple Health sync for Water and Activities -
You can now elect to sync your water intake and activity data with Apple Health. So if you are using an external tracker (like your Apple Watch) that syncs with Apple Health, all that data will now show up on your YouAte path. Of course, we also sync in the other direction, so if you quickly need to log water or an activity, like yoga, it will be pushed to Apple Health.

-Bug fix-
We fixed a bug that some of our UK users ran into, where the daily stats was blank after setting our clocks back at the end of October. Should work from now on.

We have some cool updates planned for the next releases focusing on feelings and emotions. Can’t wait to get them out to you!

Exactly what I was looking for!

I love this app! I wanted a food diary thing, but don’t want to track calories or even type in every teaspoon of oil I use to cook my dinner. I love that I can quickly type something in, and the photo aspect is unexpectedly great! It’s quick to snap a picture and it motivates me to add things like fruit and vegetables to my plate since I’m visually more apt to notice that I’m skipping them and just eating a sandwich or a piece of toast. I also like the freedom to change what is “on path” for me - since it’s not specific to one type of eating. I really love the little arrow that encourages me to make a healthier choice for my next meal if I do go off path - it’s not judgy and unlike other things I’ve tried, I don’t tend to feel like I’ve “ruined” a day with one meal or food, so I’m more likely to just move on and eat something that is better for me at the next meal rather than derail and start again the next day (or week or whatever!). Thanks for such a helpful tool!

When you add notes to your meal, you can also dictate it which makes it super easy to add some quick description of the meal and any other thoughts you feel like sharing. Down 17lbs and counting

This app is amazing. I’m someone who has tried EVERY diet and fitness app out there and nothing has been as effective as this app. I’ve lost 17lbs since I started using the app a little over a month ago and I’m still losing. The best part is you can customize your goals for you, you aren’t forced to eat or not eat any foods. I’m still eating whatever I want, but the mindfulness questions for every meal are helping me realize what foods make me feel good. If I get off track of the path I created for myself, it isn’t the end of the world and I don’t binge on ice cream like I would with other diets. I just try to be more mindful during the next meal. Mindfulness really is key to being able to make smart choices in any situation, and I’m so grateful for this app! THANK YOU FOR YOUATE, DEVELOPERS! It really works!
