YouAte Diary & Food Tracker
By Piqniq Inc.
This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.
YouAte – the mindful food diary and tracker that enhances self-awareness. Our days are jam packed, and we’re constantly running from one place to another. Do we actually remember what we snacked on earlier today or even yesterday? Do we remember how many handfuls we actually ate of those nuts or berries? YouAte helps us realize what we actually ate as opposed to what we think we ate. We tend to underestimate the s****y food or overestimate the healthy food, No matter what we ate YouAte shows it to us—so we can make a mindful decision going forward!
Most of us are not aware of our hunger cues. Did we eat because we were hungry? Were we out with friends and everyone else was eating? Do we sit at a table with others when we eat? Are we constantly eating in front of the TV? The environment and surroundings all influence how and what we eat.
YouAte helps you quickly capture your meal before you eat. With a few simple taps you can keep notes about your meal and learn about your hunger cues. You’ll soon realize how food affects your day-to-day activities and performance in and out of the office. YouAte helps track the time of your meal and the time between meals. If you are starving by lunchtime, you can see what you had earlier. Maybe you didn’t eat the right food to fuel you throughout the morning. YouAte helps you connect the dots to understand your mood and energy!
YouAte is your personal food diary. On it’s own it enhances your mindfulness and self-awareness. If you choose, it can be shared with your coach, nutritionist, or close friends for additional motivation. Whether you share it or keep it private, YouAte helps you become a healthier you.

Editable Text-Only entry (New): Do you occasionally forget to take a photo of your meal? Have you been using the Text-only mode to add a meal later? We have redesigned our Text-only journaling option. Things are bigger and friendlier to make your life easier. :) You can also change the text later, if you made a mistake while entering the meal or if you forgot about that extra serving of bacon you had with your salad.
Favorites (New): Would you like to reuse previous photos when saving meals? Do you always eat the same breakfast?
You can now save them into Favorites (under the import option) and reuse them when saving a meal. You can even set Favorites as your default import option in settings. (Favorites is a Premium account feature.)
Ability to adjust time when saving a meal (Updated): You can now change the Date and Time of a meal when importing from the camera roll, favorites or adding text-only meal. Just click on the little pencil icon before making your on/off path selection.
iPhone X compatibility (Updated): We had to move a few things around in the UI to make it look better on your new iPhone X. :)
Faster sharing (Updated): Quickly share a meal photo by tapping twice on an image to access the photo detail view and click on the share button.
Bug Fixes: Photo overwrite bug is now fixed.

So simple it works
Simple and perfect! I’ve tried similar apps and what makes this one stand out is that it doesn’t take up exorbitant storage space. This will make you reflect on why you ate and how you feel about it, removing any judgement and not imposing any limits. This works for me: If I’m setting the rules then I’m responsible for following the rules. It’s helped me overcome overeating. It has made me aware of timing of meals for intermittent fasting. The company seems respectful of users, in thoughtful app design and limited emails that you can opt out of. If it’s not a functionality, it’d be nice to see stats like how many meals I was bored, percentage of meals in the car. Otherwise, great app, recommended 110%.
Quick, fast and efficient path to your food(s).
Their customer support from the early stages and continues until now is 5 ⭐️ .. hands down. They (Tom specifically) took the time (through multiple backs & forths) via email to explain the program and what it was meant to do (and not to do). I was evaluating this along with other similar apps.
This was one of 4 programs I was running simultaneously to "journal" my food intake. But I was not doing it as a "health" thing, more so to remember what I ate and when I ate it. 😅 .. I am bad with eating since I just eat when I feel hungry.
Also, I'm not one to whip out a phone to take pics of food as I'm more anxious about getting TO the food. 🤤 ..
Where this program shines is its simplicity. You take a pic. Tap a few specific details (if you wish). And get to the food. Quick, fast, efficient and not hard at all. There is a section for notes too if you wish to enter more info.
Where (I thought) this program needs more is its simplicity as well. Yes. Sounds stupid but in my case I can't help but to want to gather as much info as possible sometimes, like numbers. Number of grams, calories, etc. BUT this program is NOT meant for that. When I first started using it, I liked the data. I wanted the data. I wanted to quantify and analyze #'s as much as I could.
In the end (some 6 months later), letting the numbers go made things a lot easier. To just take a pic and eat. To be fair there is place you can enter info/description .. but it gets to be a chore after a while.
But the neg is that it is NOT an option to have the #'s .. should some other users want a place to do so. (Btw, I no longer need it, just feel it would be a good "option")
Which leaves the last 2 negs, which has to do with the pictures . Sometimes I can't fit the whole meal into the square.
Work around: take multiple shots of foods.
I would like to remove the "YouAte" logo when i share/copy to others. I keep my food pics in the app only (don't need them as in my camera roll), but sometimes I send out to others and the pesky logo is on the bottom.
To be fair, it is a good way to share the app as I am using it for free and like it.
Easy and works
This app is great. Easy to use, makes me think twice before eating something...and I get ideas on what to eat from seeing what my friends eat.
