A world of learning and fun, made just for kids

We created YouTube Kids to make it safer and simpler for kids to explore the world through online video – from their favorite shows and music to learning how to build a model volcano (or make slime ;-), and everything in between. There’s also a whole suite of parental controls, so you can tailor the experience to your family’s needs.

A safer online experience for kids

We use a mix of filters, user feedback and human reviewers to keep the videos in YouTube Kids family friendly. But no system is perfect and inappropriate videos can slip through, so we’re constantly working to improve our safeguards and offer more features to help parents create the right experience for their families.

Get the scoop on all the control features available to you:

Create up to eight kid profiles, each with their own viewing preferences, video recommendations, and settings.

Select collections of channels on a variety of subjects by trusted partners and YouTube Kids.

Make sure you’re in control of what your kids watch and handpick the videos, channels, and collections of channels they can see.

As your little ones grow and develop you have the option to open up new content appropriate for 8-12 year olds. Simply enable this option when creating a new profile or update an already existing one. This setting allows kids to watch popular music and gaming videos from creators like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Rosanna Pansino, Roman Atwood, Dan TDM, GloZell, Kurt Hugo Schneider, Dude Perfect, Brooklyn & Bailey, Minecraft, and many more.

We work hard to make videos in the app family friendly, but no system is perfect. It’s always possible that you may find something you don’t want your child to watch. These videos may contain some explicit language and imagery, violence and suggestive content.

The “Younger” version includes videos from Thomas the Tank Engine, Dreamworks TV, Talking Tom, The Little Bus Tayo, Angry Birds, Monster High, DC Kids, and many more. With a wide selection of sing-alongs and age appropriate learning videos, this experience is perfect for preschool to school aged little ones.

Find a video or channel you don’t want your kid to watch? Block it to automatically remove it from all of your kids’ profiles.

Turn search on so kids can access more videos. Turn search off for a more contained experience by limiting the experience to channels that have been verified by YouTube Kids.

Set up a timer to put limits on how long your kids can play with the app.

Keep tabs on what your kids are watching in the app.

It was good, but now...

My little daughter, Brooklyn, loves this game. She says all of her friends watch it and they say it's the best game you can get. She's 3, and she loves watching DIY vids, Elmo, ABC 123 colors and shapes vids, etc. My 7 year old son, Karl, likes this game. He says his fave youtuber is on this so I'm just like, "Cool,Karl!" Sadly, I've seen Brooklyn watching a weird Paw Patrol vid where the puppies were falling into mud and dying. Karl was watching it with her and burst into tears when Chase died. (Y'know, Chase is on the case!) Most of the vids she watch were something happy, educational, encouraging little toddlers to do good things. But I recently had to delete this when Karl had the sound of his vid all the way up, and the youtuber cursed about five times before ending the vid. Brooklyn was caught swearing and putting up her middle finger at Karl, and I was angry at myself for letting my little kid watch that. Please do a good job looking through the vids. Then I will rate it 4 or maybe 5, if I can download the stupid thing. Somehow my kids changed my password. Yea.... welp fix those things and YEA I will rate 5 or.. oh that's the highest one 🤣 k well yea fix it.

Hi Ashley, your feedback means a lot to us. Safety is a top priority and we work hard to surface content in our app that is appropriate.

In addition, we also have a robust set of tools that help parents customize the experience for their child. You can access all of these parental controls by clicking on the lock icon in the lower right-hand corner.

One option is to allow your child to explore all videos on YouTube Kids. Parents can choose between Younger and Older content settings. Our automated systems select content from the broader universe of videos on YouTube. We work hard to exclude content that’s not suitable for kids, but we can’t manually review all videos and no automated system is perfect. If you find something inappropriate, you can block it, or report it for fast review.

Another option is to handpick the content your child as access to yourself. If you choose this option, your child won’t be able to search. For more information on how to implement this option, please refer to the YouTube Kids guide to parental controls and settings.

Pick the option that you think is best for your child. You can change these settings at any time. We also offer a variety of tools and settings, described below, that you can use to further control your child's experience. Learn more about parental controls and settings.

Yes this is LITTLE kids

I have read a bunch of reviews that were 2 star or lower and he majority seem to be about the baby content. Yes this app is designed more for the LITTLE kids like my daughter age 2. Mostly likely you will get annoyed if your kid is past kindergarten. But this is for kids and so far I like what I’m getting. There is a disclaimer about the content because your version of ok for your kids is different than stuff appropriate for my kids. Don’t rate because of personal preferences. I haven’t come across any swearing like some reviews say but we haven’t had this very long yet so we will see. But even Netflix has shows for kids in the kids profile that r more for he parents than the kids so yes going to see be his everywhere. That’s where the choice to block is nice. If anything do what my husband and I did and download the app for yourself and use it a little before unleashing it to you kid. I actually do that with all my kids’ apps. Thanks!

Hi Pookieber, thank you for the support!

We are committed to building YouTube Kids in a way that offers kids the content they love, while also giving grown-ups the tools to customize the app as they see fit. As no two families are the same, neither are their needs.

Since you wrote this review, we’ve added even more app features that we think families like yours will really enjoy. These include: the ability for parents to handpick every video and channel available to their kids, a new older experience geared towards 8-12 year olds (currently available in the US), and content collections from both our trusted partners and the YouTube Kids team. These collections cover a variety of topics ranging from arts & crafts, to learning, to DIY, to music, and more.

You can access these parental features by clicking on the lock icon in the lower right-hand corner.

Parents should have more control over what our kids watch.

It doesn't give me an option to give it 2 and half stars, but that's what I give it! It does have a lot of great videos for my son to watch, but there is a lot of inappropriate and dumb videos on here. Then the only option it give you is for you to block the channel or video or report it. Which is very annoying because you delete it on one channel then it shows up on the next one. You report it and you find one similar on another channel. I would really love an option where I can subscribe to certain channels for my son and those are the only ones he can watch. Setting up a profile for him is joke because you don't really have any control on what pop ups. You can turn off the search and turn off the history but then he can't watch the channels that I approve of and he really likes. This app should really give us parents more of an options to set up their profile's and allow what videos our children can or cannot watch.
