Well Rounded. Could use some touches.

If you're looking for a simple on-the-go game to drop 10 or 15 minutes into here and there this game will hold you over. If you're looking for a break from Hearthstone until pirate warriors are done hanging out in the meta this is it. If you're simply looking for a bit of nostalgia give the game a quick spin. This game can also function as a time-sink, a phrase which here means an activity in which you can invest large quantities of time.
Now for some constructive criticism... The new player experience will hook you, but offers little as far as deck variety goes. You can duel characters from the show and unlock them and their decks for use after a short but very grindy system of challenges that usually require you to play a handful of games against the same generic duelists. You can purchase packs of cards for gems you'll get from the challenges or you can spend real money. Just like any card game this rewards those who pay to play, and that's not necessarily a system that needs fixing. The game would benefit from another means of obtaining cards, if only for some variety. Player versus player duels are far more entertaining than the duels you will face against the generic bots. Duelist characters from the show are slightly better, but only slightly.

All in all the game is fun, and absolutely worth trying.

This is what Yu-Gi-Oh needed!

Great adaptation of the real thing. I'm really impressed on how addictive this game is for a mobile device. Similar to the original card game only with less monster and spell/trap zones on the field during battle, both containing only 3 slots.
I feel like I'm 10 again collecting hundreds and hundreds of cards, re-learning effects and dominating opponents. Even for the people with less to no experience with this game will easily hone and sharpen their skills in duel school and against standard NPC duelists.
Unfortunately like the physical game you do have to buy card packs. Fortunately when you begin this game you'll be given plenty of gems and coins to buy and trade a healthy number of outstanding cards.
I can't wait for future updates within this game like adding more cards, getting a direct chat line with friends, and 2v2 duels. Also creating your own avatar to duel with instead of just the characters from the anime would be pretty cool too. Until then I'm content with stacking my arsenal of monsters and trying new deck combinations, thanks for the nostalgia!

Awesome game, but with a few small problems...

Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links is everything a Yu-Gi-Oh game should be. It's got everything you could ask for! A great single-player mode, an awesome pack-opening system, and a wide range of cards and characters, etc. However, it does have one fatal flaw... In PvP, especially in Ranked matches, if a person leaves the game without surrendering, the other player is left with a, "waiting for response" message and forced to sit there for an undefined amount of time with nothing to do. Previously in the last update there was at least a 5 minute maximum waiting time, but now the system is just completely broken. I cannot tell you how many times I was forced to sacrifice a win because someone I was destroying was too much of a sore loser to either let me win, or click surrender. A suggested solution would be to re-implicate the forfeit system, but only limit it to 1 minute for the player who left to come back, that way you're not sitting there waiting for what seems to be an eternity. Fix this and this app will be a definite 5-Star guaranteed!
