Ratings and Reviews
Throw out all the other cooking apps
I have had this app for a number of years and decided to finally write a review. I was impressed with the layout and the pictures of the food that I might cook (I don't have ads popping up so I must of bought Yum with the ad free). After using the app a number of times I started learning all the features such as filtering and shopping lists. Recently, as a New Year's resolution, I decided to go on the Paleo diet. I had been searching for a number of days for apps, books. Being a New beginner to the Paleo diet it was frustrating trying to find a decent app. Most of the apps wanted money for a limited amount of recipes.
Finally I was looking at my apps on my iPad and got to looking at Yum. I rummaged through the filters and imagine to my surprise, there in preference, lo and behold was the Paleo diet, I click that and Unclicked everything else ( make sure you do that or you'll get a hodgepodge of recipes) You could type in search, breakfast, lunch, dinner, sauces and all your results would be in Paleo. The only problem I had in the search occasionally was I had to use their preference box that comes underneath your search. It's a bug and I hope Yum fixes that. But I got to tell you I absolutely no kidding love this app. And the data of recipes is massive. Five stars as far as I'm concerned.
Love this app!
This is my go-to recipe app. It allows me to select all of the recipes that include the ingredient(s) I want to use based on the the dietary preferences, allergies, disliked ingredients, and favorite cuisines I’ve indicated. The star ratings show me how much others have liked it and give me an indication of whether or not I might like it. The other thing I really like is the ability to create my own categories for recipes so after marking them by “yumming”, I have them divided into additional categories such as “to try”, “liked a lot”, “liked”, “didn’t like”, etc., which helps me keep track of my experiences. The only thing i don’t like is that the app lists the recipe’s ingredients but to get the directions, you need to click the button that takes you to the web page where the recipe is located.
How did I live before Yummly?
I did not expect to use this app so much when I installed it, but my husband and I cook almost every night, and when I’m stuck for options, or tired of the same old, Yummly makes it so easy. I like that I can search by ingredients, or by the type of dish, or by preparation method, or any other keyword like “vegetarian”. Besides food, I enjoy making craft cocktails (so I can search for something “smoky” with “mezcal” and “fernet” and discover my new fave cocktail, like Sleepy Hollow)...
Another cool feature on Yummly is the option to choose “5 ingredients or less” when I don’t have a lot of time.
Basically it’s customizable and makes cooking easy so I use it every night. (And these days, that’s more often than I’m on Facebook or IG. #realtalk)
